madrano | 6535 comments Gladstone's is a good quote. I can't tell you how many times i visit an historical museum (president's home or classroom sorts) and smile as i look at the books on the shelves. They bring back many of having read them or hearing about them...or even thinking of little Jimmy Carter reading it.

For the last 40+ hours i've had trouble getting the threads to stay here, when i did, it ate my posts. At this point today i've posted 6 or 7 times, so i think the problem is resolved. I hope so, as i'm quite behind.

I try to do this, too, Julie.

madrano | 6535 comments Same here. I know that when someone compliments me, i walk away smiling and inclined to share the joy. Although i'm trying to remember if i think to do this toward men. Surely i do, right?

Tanima (goodreadscomtan) | 5 comments There are thousands of quotes I've read that give me a sense of purpose. But I love these:

1. "Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

2. "We spend our youth chasing wealth, and our wealth chasing youth."

3. "Long term consistency trumps short term intensity."

madrano | 6535 comments Three good ones, Tanima. I'm particularly drawn to the last one. Thanks for sharing.

Alias Reader (aliasreader) | 14947 comments Excellent quotes, Tanima ! Thanks for sharing.

The first one reminds me of Gandhi's words.
"Be the change you want to see."

message 17: by madrano (new)

madrano | 6535 comments I'll say! The Razor's Edge is my favorite by him, although i've enjoyed others. His short stories can be very good, too.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 240 comments Wonderful Angelou quote, especially on this day that we celebrate the life of Martin Luther King.

message 23: by Alias Reader (new)

Alias Reader (aliasreader) | 14947 comments I didn't know who he was either. Thanks for the GR link.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 1930 comments Ha ha ha. I really like this.

message 26: by madrano (new)

madrano | 6535 comments Good plan. And make it a thick book, so it appears we were planning to live much, much longer. Heck, we probably don't even have to be actually reading it, just leave it in a comfy reading spot. :-)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 240 comments It reminds me of a quote from FDR's first inaugural address.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself"

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 240 comments Very touching tribute. Those of us who saw that tragedy will never forget it.

message 40: by madrano (new)

madrano | 6535 comments The visual was awful to witness, wasn't it. Thanks for the reminder.

This week also marked the anniversary of the deaths of astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee who died in a fire during a pre-flight test in 1967.

message 47: by madrano (new)

madrano | 6535 comments Sometimes i feel exactly like that Georgia O'Keefe quote. Well, maybe not terrified but nervous, timid, a tad more calm than her quote. Still!

message 48: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 240 comments On a lighter tone, this Steve Martin quote always makes me laugh.
