Carolien (carolien_s) | 894 comments I've been looking for an excuse to read more African authors this year and this seems like a good opportunity. They're all on my shelf, so I have no excuse. I've managed to include authors from 4 countries.

Old School:
Evelina
The Mysteries of Udolpho
Pride and Prejudice Completed 20 March 2017. 3 stars

New School:
The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born (Ghana) - 1968
Down Second Avenue: Growing Up in a South African Ghetto (South Africa) - 1959
Burger's Daughter (South Africa) - 1979

Wildcards:
Eggs to Lay, Chickens to Hatch: A Memoir (South Africa) - 2010
Unbowed (Kenya) - 2008
The In-Between World of Vikram Lall (Kenya) - 1999
Measuring Time (Nigeria) - 2007
White Wahalla (Ghana) - 2014
What Sunny Saw in the Flames (Nigeria) - 2016

Alternates:
Recessional for Grace(South Africa) - 2002
Nairobi Heat (Kenya) - 2009

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) | 799 comments I think you've made some good choices. Where I live, African books are mostly in French, which is a deterrent for me.

Pink | 5491 comments I like your challenge idea of reading more African authors, that's something I need to do more of. Good luck with all of your choices :)

message 4: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments Looks like an interesting list though I admit I haven't heard of many of these. I'm horribly ill-read when it comes to African authors.

Enjoy the challenge!

message 5: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 1895 comments I love your challenge. I haven't heard of your wildcards, but two of your new school choices are books I've been meaning to read. I hope you enjoy your choices!

message 6: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 5527 comments I did a little shopping through your list and picked Measuring Time. Thank you for these great suggestions! Hope you enjoy them all.

message 7: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 894 comments It's been a slow start to my challenges this year, but one complete. Pride and Prejudice is not my favourite Austen, but I've enjoyed it all in all.

message 8: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments P&P isn't my favourite Austen either, but it's still an enjoyable read. Good luck with your next choice :)
