SOLVED. Jewish book title or character: Ripka...?? Please Help! [s]

I read this book I want to say somewhere in-between 2005 to 2006? It was for a class so I'm not too sure when it was published since I did not care to look. I can't remember exactly if the author, title, or character is Ripka or Riptka. I know that name was used somewhere along that line. Reading level is definitely aimed at children's chapter or MA.

If I remember correctly, the cover has a young girl with a black hijab holding the Star of David. The setting could have been during the Holocaust or during that time frame. The book is mainly about the girl and her family's struggle through the war. Somehow I keep thinking that the girl has a scar on her face hence the hijab she wears to hide it, but that could be irrelevant information. That's all I can vaguely remember.

It is a standalone book most likely written as a biography or realistic fiction. Any input is much appreciated as I would really love to read the book again.

You're welcome! You were pretty close with the character's name. I searched Google for Jewish names similar to Ripka.
