Someone mentioned 11/22/63 a few comments back... I went ahead and started it early this week so that I could finish it right after New Year.... and I'm going to have to do another one because I just finished it. It is absolutely un-put-downable and I really recommend it, although it's heartbreaking. It's just really good.

LOL I started that a few weeks ago and I'm barely 1/5 of the way through, this book is a STRUGGLE for me!! I'm in no danger of finishing in 2016. I AM in danger of never finishing it at all!

It dawned on me that the Bible would fit into a lot of these categories: book of letters, written by person of color, different ethnicity, character from country I haven't been to, interesting woman, someone I admire, takes place over character's life span, multiple authors, set in wilderness, set during wartime, immigrant or refugee, eccentric characters, more than 800 pages, mentioned in another book, and difficult topic. But I've already read the Bible! So I guess I'll read multiple books to fulfill the challenge.

Indeed, both my 600+ books were actually 800+ pages long:

- Vikram Seth, A Suitable Boy , Phoenix House, 1993, 1474pp;

- Jean-Marie Blas de Roblès, Là où les tigres sont chez eux , Zulma, 2016 (ed. orig 2008), 976pp.

This year I plan to read 2666 by Roberto Bollaño (1376 pages in the French pocket edition). That should do the trick! Too bad I don't read Spanish, though.

I read I Know This Much Is True last year for a book over 600 pages prompt but it is actually 900 pages. I wish I held off to read it this year.

I think I'm going to go with Gone with the Wind for this prompt. My copy of Anna Karenina is only 600+ pages so it doesn't fit.

Up to you - but the hard cover edition on goodreads says 818 pages so I'd say it counts!

The original hardback edition of that book has 823 pages, and the revised 1988 paperback edition has 1,141. You can make like a male ice cream sundae and go nuts!

Hi everyone! I guess I could really use suggestions for this one because books this long can never hold my interest! I usually give up and skim around 400-500 pages. My favorite genres are chick lit, suspense, psychological thrillers, but I'm up for anything! Look forward to the suggestions :)

If you're interested in Sci-Fi for this prompt, Seveneves might be a good choice. I don't think it's too spoilery to say there's a major time jump at one point, so that it feels more like you're getting 2 stories in one book. It happens at about 66% in the kindle version, which should work out to about 580 pages. That would give you a stop point, and a fresh related story to re-start on of another 300 or so. It's very suspenseful too, not in the same way as a usual thriller, but in a humanity vs. environment way.

Or you could try an omnibus edition book, with the first 2 or 3 of a series you're interested in, or a longer collection of short stories. :)

I haven't read that one yet (it is on my bookshelf though...), but I plan to read Word of Honor by DeMille for this prompt. I love his writing! I've read the first 5 books in the John Corey series as well as a couple of his stand alone novels.

Because I've Dante Valentine: The Complete Series sitting on my shelf for ages now and I was thinking to read it this year. Do you think I could make this count for this prompt. Or would you consider this cheating?

I am HOPING that GRRM finally finishes The Winds of Winter for this prompt (no way it's not going to be over 800 pages!) but I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with my daughter. My edition is only 752 pages but I picked up the hard cover version and it is 936 pages! Do you think I can count it for this prompt or is that cheating?

I've managed to accidentally complete this one, I've been rereading jilly coopers books. Just finished Wicked! and that happened to be about 850 pages. Only realised when I entered the page I was on yesterday though haha
