I'm just starting ch. 5 & reading while students are reading and doing an assignment so interruptions every 2-3 minutes as they come up to get things checked off, but I can get some done. I'm going to try to finishe ch. 5 within the next 40 minutes, if they allow me. Lol

Finally, I am home and can comment. LOL

First, I also had a bit of a time with the writing until I realized that mostly it's due to her lack of a lot of adverbs for words such as "rarely" or "fairly" but she uses "rare" and "fair" which threw me off. She also says "were" rather than "was" so I just HAD to use the words that sounded better to me. I read it as "was" and "fairly" etc. to make better sense for myself.

Scar (view spoiler)[is definitely a feisty little thing. She reminds me of a tomboy who nobody takes seriously, only because of how the band likes to tease her. But her knife throwing skills are obviously to die for...literally. For being incognito, I feel like quite a few know she's a girl, such as the friar. (hide spoiler)]

Rob (view spoiler)[seems to like her as a woman and not just a fighter, but I could be wrong. (hide spoiler)]

Much (view spoiler)[is such an odd name and every time I read it my first thought is, "Much what?" and then I say, "Oh, yeah, that's his name."

John (view spoiler)[I really like him. I think he's funny and I also think he likes Scar. Do I see a triangle developing? (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

Since Scarlet seems to know him from London, and he had a fiancé who killed herself, I think maybe Scarlet might be her and faked her death. I took a look at it. Obviously it's written in dialect. I would have used less dialect, myself. I think it can be done better with a well-chosen word here and there rather than writing everything in "trouble in't mill" style.

Clive, I realized that when I was reading it, but it still stumped my reading so I changed the wording as needed for myself. And I agree that the whole book didn't have to be written that way, but I've only read through ch. 6. I need to hit it again but I had a long and busy day so wasn't able to read very much today.

I also thought that (view spoiler)[John and Rob and Scar would be a triangle. I have learned a bit more about whether that's true, I think, by the end of chapter 6 (hide spoiler)]

Funny thing is I got this book on my NOOK and today I was going to read more and I found a library book THINKING it was the same as this one and I thought, "Oh jeez, I didn't have to buy it after all because I have a library copy." So I get into the book (hard copy) and go to pg. 100 where I'd left off and thought, "I don't remember any of this. What the heck is going on?" I skimmed back a few pages to review and thought I'd left off earlier in the book and had marked it incorrectly. Then I was looking at the pictures in the book wondering why my Kindle edition didn't have the pics and what they were about. I was thoroughly confused, and FINALLY I realized that the library book was Getting older is for the birds!!! LOL

- No, not reading this. It's not my kind of story. I do reviews when requested and I'm always interested in historical fiction, and love editing it too. My last major edit was Cast The First Stone by Andrew Mowatt. It's not YA though!

I am getting used to the language and really enjoying this one now.

Scar (view spoiler)[is feistier than heck and gutsy! I loved the part where she had arrows being shot at her, but only because I could visualize her swinging from tree to tree, almost like a monkey. LOL (hide spoiler)]

Ravenna (view spoiler)[What is she thinking? I don't like that she's supposed to marry Sheriff, and why doesn't the sheriff have a name?! Ugh, I'd rather sell my soul to the devil! (hide spoiler)]

Gisbourne (view spoiler)[is truly after Scar, isn't he? I have a feeling (now that I've read her near-confession to Rob) that you are probably right about her being the woman he was engaged to and he was maybe abusive because she said he gave her the scar. Why is she SO worried that Rob will kick her out once he knows the story behind the scar? (hide spoiler)]

John (view spoiler)[is the creep I knew he was and even more so. I can't stand him right now, due to his wanting a peek at Scar when she was injured. Who thinks that way at a time like that! (hide spoiler)]

Rob (view spoiler)[obviously cars for Scar in a romantic way and not just like one of the other guys. He definitely didn't like that John and she kissed or that he thinks she's "toying" with both him, John, and the entire band. He went off in such a huff, I'm sure it's because he has the hots for her. He wants to protect her, too, but she is not having it! LOL (hide spoiler)]
