"Purchased" --> means someone already purchase the book for them. So don't buy that one

"Mark as Purchased" --> means not yet purchased. You can buy the book for them, and then YOU can click it, so everyone else can see that the book has been purchased. The owner of the list cannot see it themselves

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 37 comments ok so when I click to purchase if I have to send it to them as anonymous? or does elfster do it?

The wishlist is only that, a list. You buy the ebooks at the retailers (Amazon, All Romance). After you buy, you can go back to Elfster and to your Elf's wishlist and the click "Mark to Purchased". That way if someone else come to your Elf's wishlist they will see which books that have been bought and haven't.

Elfster will not do anything else, besides matching you up with your current Elf.

I hope that clears things?

I can't help it my momma always told me if you can't say anything nice...and I'm a chatterbox by nature. Good thing I don't have a problem finding nice people to say nice things about, right?

~ Lei ~ Reading Is An Adventure ~ (leilanilives2read) | 345 comments Carmen - it does get easier and it's especially confusing if it's your first time.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 37 comments Oh I hope so because I'm still confused but I'll take a look at it in the morning since it's late and I think my eyes are playing tricks on me. Thanks Lei for the help :)

Thanks for explaining, Ami!!

Pavellit | 20 comments Hi guys. I'm a newbie here and I'm kind of confused, unsured if I did the right steps. I've received a notice that I've been paired by a person and I have to give to her a book from her wish list. I picked one and via amazon.com purchased as a gift for her. Is that all that I need to do? And now the game is over for me?

message 159: by Ami (new)

Ami (amie_07) | 342 comments Well the limit is $15 so you can still shower the person you are paired with more books. That is all you can do for him/her. The rest of the game is wait for your Santa to buy things for you, to show off your goodies to others, to guess who your Secret Santa is, and give hints so the one you paired with can guess your identity ^^

Thanks Ami. I did that ( added one more), but you need to know that I paid 16.87$ incl.VAT (20%) and probably from the standpoint of the USA (for my receiver) this means 14.06$. Is that good enough?

message 161: by Ami (last edited Nov 21, 2016 03:05AM) (new)

Ami (amie_07) | 342 comments I definitely think so :). Now you can just sit back and let that person guess who you are. Feel free to throw around hints if you want.

message 162: by RedL. (new)

RedL. | 24 comments Hi all, I am sure this was asked before by someone else, I can't seem to find an answer to this right right now, if your designated receiver does not specify the ebook format they prefer, how should I go about it? I can't gift from my local Amazon site but I can buy from other sites, I just want to make sure my person will be able to enjoy my gifts...I thought about sending an anonymous message...

message 163: by Ami (last edited Nov 21, 2016 04:25AM) (new)

Ami (amie_07) | 342 comments RedL, you CAN use Elfster to ask your designater receiver what format they want. Just click the profile of your designated receiver, then click "Ask a Question". It will be sent anonymously

Quick question. My elf gave me a book that I already purchased. I go to "exchange it", but I'm not able to because it says I already accepted/purchased the book. How do I go about changing that? Has anyone else have this situation?

Thanks!

Where was it sent from? Amazon or ARe?

Also if you gift from ARe the person you are sending it too picks the format they want when they download it. So you really just need to know what format they use to make sure that ARe has it in that format most of their books are available in epub, mobi, adobe and often pdf.

Amazon

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I see some people's email on their elfster profile when you click on it. Is there a way to change the setting? I have an email on my profile but it does not display if you click on my profile.

I think Amazon is glitching. I've gotten that same message when I accepted a couple of mine that I know good and well I did NOT have already. I'd just contact their customer service, which is actually pretty good. They'll help you out and there should be no problem exchanging.

It doesn't show on the side when you click on your wish list?

*Edit* Actually, I can't see my own email when I look at my wish list but if I click on anyone else, I can see theirs on the left.

Thanks Lisa, ARe I'm good with but I'm not that knowledgeable about Amazon. Although I had to deal with Audible recently and the customer service I got from them was awesome.

Well, I'm not all that knowledgeable about them, I've only had to use them once but they were great then. But I did get that same weird message twice now, so that's kind of odd.

If you message Amazon they should help right away. Their customer service is really good.

Sadly you're probably right. I had a problem with a book that was a re-release I didn't realize I'd read the first edition and the book title had changed so it wasn't until I'd downloaded it that my brain realized this and they wouldn't do anything for me. I have admit though I can see they're point once you've downloaded they have no way of verifying that you didn't keep a copy and if they do it for one customer...

Daphne | 105 comments Has anyone found an easy workaround for being in the US with a giftee in the U.K.? I sent an Amazon.com book last week but I don't think my giftee can access it. Can I make an Amazon UK account and just use it to send from there? Will it let me do that if I'm in the US? Thanks for the help!!

I don't think that would work, Daphne. I opened an Amazon.com account for that purpose but I wasn't able to buy ebooks. I can send out gift cards to Amazon.com users, though. I use allromance and omnilit to gift ebooks. Oh, and I'm not from the UK but from Germany. But since I tried doing the same with an Amazon.UK account a while back and it didn't work, I don't think that makes a difference.

edit: You can always try, though. If you are allowed to buy ebooks and the option to gift them is even available (it isn't in Germany) than it could work.

Hello Daphne. I confirm what Josy said : even if you open an account in the UK, it won't work when it comes to kindle books. I have a US and a UK account where I can purchase some goods I can't have on the French site, but everytime I tried with ebooks, I'm automatically redirected to the French site.

Sorry, I don't know either. I looked there as well and couldn't find anything. Do they even have the option to gift books?

message 189: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (pokey36) I just bought a cheapie from DSP to see if there would be a gifting option once I went through the checkout process and there is not. Hmmm, that sucked!

message 190: by K (new)

K (k-polipetl) | 86 comments Hi Daphne

Unfortunately you can't buy Kindle books on Amazon US if you are in the UK or vice-versa. It's frustrating but it's all to do with taxes and VAT (which the UK and most of Europe charge on e-books). In the UK we can't do Kindle lending either.

Amazon gift vouchers from the US site can be used to be paperbacks but most of the gift voucher ends up on postage.

Some publishers also won't sell direct to the UK - For ex. Torqure Press - for the same reason

The easiest way to gift to someone in the UK is through ARe (Allromanceebooks.com)

I was about to do the same. I sent them an email yesterday asking how to make a gift purchase, but have not received an answer yet. I will share it here as soon as someone answers. Actually, I might head over to their twitter right now to see if there is someone there to give me a hint.

If you download Calibre, you can easily convert your files to any format you want.

There are also on-line converters:

M'rella (mrella) | 806 comments I finally got a reply from DSP today regarding gifts:

"Hello, currently we can process gift orders through the office. We can invoice you through PayPal and then place the gift voucher on the receiver's Dreamspinner Press account.

Thanks,
