Shadow Scale (Seraphina, #2) by Rachel Hartman

GR synopsis:
The kingdom of Goredd: a world where humans and dragons share life with an uneasy balance, and those few who are both human and dragon must hide the truth. Seraphina is one of these, part girl, part dragon, who is reluctantly drawn into the politics of her world. When war breaks out between the dragons and humans, she must travel the lands to find those like herself—for she has an inexplicable connection to all of them, and together they will be able to fight the dragons in powerful, magical ways.

As Seraphina gathers this motley crew, she is pursued by humans who want to stop her. But the most terrifying is another half dragon, who can creep into people’s minds and take them over. Until now, Seraphina has kept her mind safe from intruders, but that also means she’s held back her own gift. It is time to make a choice: Cling to the safety of her old life, or embrace a powerful new destiny?

I will be starting this one soon for my 2016 PopSugar Challenge, a book more than 600 pages. I really enjoyed reading Seraphina last year, and The Audition this year. So I am really looking forward to continuing on with Seraphina's story.

Zaz | 3034 comments I finished it a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. I didn't find it as good as Seraphina because she focused less on music and because I found that the book lacked development on Seraphina's side (and on some others). It's a big book but I have actually no idea how it can be so big with the lack of action and characters' development. However, it was great to discover other cultures and characters, to spend more time in this world and the writing was pleasant :)

Manda (bookwenchmanda) | 1094 comments This sounds a bit disappointing, Zaz. I just started it this morning, and really enjoyed the recap/historian's perspective of Seraphina's story, but I haven't gotten much further than that, yet.

Manda (bookwenchmanda) | 1094 comments I was so disappointed in this! it was like reading a boring memoir of someone really uninteresting. This was very polarizing from Seraphina. I kind of wish I hand't of read this and would have just left it at the first book and the prequel.
