I read the (childrens?) book in primary school about a group of old school class mates going to a reunion on an island and one by one someone dies. There was a boat called the silver medal and it was the guy that came second place in everything that was the murderer.

Sounds like it might be based on Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. Maybe Ten by Gretchen McNeil?
