Poet : Edward Davies

A candle in a pumpkin
Is something rarely seen
Usually in October
Close to Halloween

Its fire light shines darkly
Illuminates a grin
Flickers in the moonlight
Reflects shadows within

A candle in a pumpkin
Is scary as can be
Brings to mind prickly thoughts
Of ghosts and things spooky

It radiates its aura
Projects its sinful beams
Terrifies the neighbours kids
Devouring their screams

Candle in the pumpkin

Peeping through the narrow gap,
in the door I saw from my room,
two shadows bicker, yap n snap.

Felt a pain in my heart bloom.
They weren't mama, papa mayhap,
but then why the sense of gloom.

Went outside to escape the flap,
I came across a pumpkin groom,
with a funny face n a funny cap.

I laughed, tearing like a flume,
for a moment, escaped the sad trap,
that I felt in my heart bloom.

Someone brought candle made of scrap,
lit it inside pumpkin, rising fume,
casting scary shadows on walls that chap.

I sat down, watching them loom.
What brings the worst within?
Like the candle in a pumpkin,
on the day of the halloween.
