Stormy night, car accident, red wagon drive through

Im trying to remember the name of a book i read in 2011... I think it was by Dean Koontz but it may not have been. I just remember reading almost all of his books around that time.
This guy and his wife were in a car accident the same night, they may or may not have been in the same car. Wife is taken to the hospital in critical condition and husband is in a fugue state and is running around town. There is one part in the book where its the middle of the night and he has to go through a drive through but doesnt have a car so he uses a little red wagon.

At the end of the book he gets to the hospital just as his wife dies.
