Lynette Ferreira (lynetteferreira) | 40 comments Hi,

I have added NOT A BOOK as author to some of my editions for:

ForNever
Would You Remember ME
The Dark, Dark House
Forever Young

Is it possible you could undo this and make me the author again.

I am so sorry for creating extra work, and I don't know what I was thinking. As these books are no longer available, I did think it would be the best route, but have reconsidered and decided it was a silly thing to do.

Thank you so much for your help.

Kindest regards,
Lynette

It's also contrary to Goodreads policy. Please see http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/22... and http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/32...

It looks like at least one librarian is already at work on this.

Also, the edition field is not the place for formats, such as Kindle or ebook.

Abcdarian | 19829 comments I was trying to sort out your various series/books Lynette. (Not working on the NOT A BOOKs, as I couldn't figure out how to access them.) Under the William the Damned editions (https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...) I separated out Vampire Legacy, Vampire Virus, etc., that were clearly not meant to be combined, but the ones left range in page count from 20 to 290. Some of them must contain the whole set and some just part?

Same with the Lucas/Blue Moon editions: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

Thank you so much. I know it's a mess. I'll have a look at them and update the page numbers. However, some of them are no longer published and some were just placeholders.

In the 'author' page of NOT A BOOK, it states that books which are no longer available anywhere can be labelled NOT A BOOK by replacing the author name with the author name NOT A BOOK, so I assumed this would be the right thing to do, as these are no longer available anywhere and some were never even officially published.

I noticed there was a librarian making some changes, so I moved on. Thank you so much!

Thank you for all your help.
Lynette

It most certainly does not. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) Huge difference between something not being a book and a book being out of print.

Maybe there are now more than one author pages for "not a book" variations that need merging because when I looked out of curiosity, The NOT A BOOK author page at https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... still says:
"This "author" was created to segregate those items which have ISBNs but are not actually books. For more information, see the manual and/or start a thread in the Librarians Group..."
[The manual/policy at https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/1... still says (I checked because been a long time since I did librarian edits):
"Not a book

Just as not all books have ISBNs, not all ISBNs are associated with books. When an item which is not a book is imported via ISBN into Goodreads, it does no good to delete it: the item will only be re-imported as long as it remains on the feeder site. (Often these are book-related items which are assigned ISBNs by book publishers so that they can be tracked through their book systems.

These items should be transferred to the “author” NOT A BOOK. This can be done by editing the individual book record and replacing the existing primary author with the author NOT A BOOK, or, if all of the items on an author's list are not books, the author can be edited and merged entirely into NOT A BOOK... " ]
ETA: I couldn't find multiple author page variations on "not a book."

The very last entry on the book page for NOT A BOOK says:

* untitled books where no verifiable publication information about the book exists (often these are titled "Untitled #3" and represent placeholder ISBNs that were never used)

* "all book by an author" or "all books in a series" where no published collection of these works exists (less)

The books I marked as NOT A BOOK fell in this category, but maybe I just misunderstood it.

I did apologise for doing this, as in hindsight I realised even though they were not available anywhere, readers had rated some of them already.

Thank you so much for fixing it and restoring me as the author and even though they aren't available, and in some cases were never even published, it's fine for it to stays as is.

Kindest regards,
Lynette

lethe | 13747 comments No longer published books do not fall in these categories. People may have bought these books and added them to their bookshelves or ereader.

Non-existent means it does not exist and has never existed (books/collections that were never published).
