Vic, Alvie, and Harm – the Three Boys – have been harboring a dark secret since 1938. Should they have paid the consequences when they were younger? What should those consequences have been?

Megan | 12 comments I do think that they should have paid the consequences when they were younger. While it was an accident, the fact that they were not held accountable haunted and shaped them in different ways over the years. I suppose, in some ways, the cover-up did have consequences for them all, just not in the sense of a legal consequence. While there is no way to know if a trial or jail time would have changed the course of their lives, there was no real justice for the victims of their misguided decisions, and no real chance for them to make amends. Harm probably came closest with attempting to reconcile his past, but they all struggled for far longer than they might have if they had been held accountable at the time.
