Darlene Strayer was a former Georgetown Law classmate – and rival – of Bel’s. Why does Bel feel a responsibility to look into Darlene’s final request? And what is her responsibility to Darlene’s partner, Ava Hendricks?

Megan | 12 comments It seemed to me that Bell felt a responsibility to look into Darlene's final request, at least in part, because of their shared background. While they were not close, their upbringing in Acker's Gap and similar paths once they left home would have likely factored into Bell's decision. Bell seemed to be an incredibly emphatic character who could see herself in another's shoes and would act accordingly. To me, her empathy seemed to be what drove the responsibility she felt towards Darlene's partner, Ava. I think that knowing Darlene and Ava were planning to move to Acker's Gap also factored into Bell's sense of responsibility.
