Hi Segilola,I'm with Marie - unfortunately I have no answers.
Extremely annoying stuff. They need to have a cyber police or something to protect citizens in cyber space, and hopefully better than in real life...Hope the hackers will let go.
thanks guys . . . I just really don't know what to do. I think they feel it's a challenge. thankfully I learnt my lesson from a few months before. their software is so sophisticated one of my website monitors didn't pick their attempts up and this monitor is actually quite good.but like you said Nik, hopefully they'll let go. I just don't get why they feel the need to hack into an author website.
This is horrific on so many levels. From what I understand these hackers practice or train on random categories of attacks. The first attack was almost certainly random but it worked so that put you on a revisit list because they knew you would increase your security. Hackers need you to do that because it's their job to document how many security layers they can punch through and what methods worked or did not work.There must be some way for you to end this nightmare. Is WP supportive?
Wow! This needs a WTF button, imo... I'm with Tara, though. Maybe you upping security comes across as a challenge to them, that they have to best you. It might not be malicious per se attacking you as a person...But yes, is WP helping? Can't you contact a cyber crime unit in your area?
sadly WP is volunteer run and they rarely respond to support threads. well no one replied when I did so over the summerI did report to the UK cyber crime unit and they just took details down to monitor trends.
I'm almost tempted to turn off email notification. Had to delete over 300 email notices of multiple failed login notices this morning

I rarely get spam with my gmail. other than on goodreads, my email isn't published any where. the emails are from my security plugin letting me know what's going on. I ask people to contact me via my website and that weeds out spam.I'm feeling quite smug now, the mofos tried for 24 hours and couldn't get in, so they seem to have stopped. Going for the paid security option cos I imagine whatever attack they try next might topple my little author website.
This is good news! I'm in the middle of building my site now and you've got me scared. By the way, what did your host have to say about this?
they didn't say much before but I will contact them again.the mofos haven't really stopped just slowed down. they were attacking quite forcefully before up to 4 login attempts per minute, now they're down to per 10 minutes

recommendation to anyone getting a new website1 do not use admin as the username
2 do not use the default login page, get a plugin that changes it completely.
$40 poorer this morning but I would have loved to see their face when they go to my default login page and get error message "oops the page you are looking for cannot be found" [evil maniacal laugh]
That's hilarious! Off to look up plug-ins.

yea, I do hope so too. bots are so sophisticated these days. for the first 24 hours they kept finding the new login slug. had to get the developer involved and disabled something else. hopefully now they can't attempt to pick a lock if they don't know where the lock is.

yup, double WOW and the person just joined Goodreads. What normal person joins goodreads and the first thing the person does is to spam an event page?

ahahahaha I know right . . . sadly I doubt it would be a crazy ex. Most people that know me personally don't know I write. I would like to think of the few that do know, they have better things to do with their lives than troll me online.
saying that, you are the second person to ask if it could be someone I know personally but I can't think of a way of finding out.

Well, the way it presents is that you've definitely done something to tick someone off at some point. And either it was a big thing or they're REALLY unbalanced. So it could be some random internet troll, but considering the escalation......
OMG that's the funnies comment I've read all day. I think I would like to guess that the person really is unbalanced. If it is a friend, then the person really isn't a friend. Time will tell, sooner or later, the person would make a mistake

Fellow goodreaders: So after the hacking incident over the summer, I upped my website security and still the bloody mofos aren't moving on. I think they are so determined to hack into my website and it seems that as everything they have tried has failed, they have gotten the big guns out. They're now using a program that autogenerates new IP addresses as well as passwords.
A friend said maybe it's someone I know but I would like to think that (even though I do come across as a little bit as snobby in real life (cos I don't like socialising)) no one hates me to the extent of trying to break into my website.
So please add your pleas to mine and just maybe the person I unknowingly offended online would STOP! The last 21 hours has filled my inbox with pages of failed login attempts notification.
