I came across The Horus Heresy by accident, then discovered that a variety of authors wrote separate books ... very interesting. But that makes it impossible to get a feel for the series, unless you go and find each author and read the reviews for their contribution.
So, can you give a brief summary of the series, did you like it, can you recommend it.

Anike Kirsten (anike_kirsten) | 1 comments The Horus Heresy is a prelude series to the "present" Warhammer 40k universe. It dates in the 30th millenium and revolves around the fall of the Primarchs: "sons" of the Emperor of mankind. The series begins with Horus Lupercal, the Warmaster of the Emperor's legions. The legions consist of genetically modified Space Marines known as the Astartes. The series expands on important events of the Heresy and the Primarchs involved in it; from how the Heresy began, with whom it began, who fell to Chaos, and the consequences thereof.

It's a long series, best read in order from Horus Rising, but intricately captivating. You can find more info at Black Library.
