Fishface | 12071 comments This 2006 movie is based on the exploits, not of Idi Amin Dada -- His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin, VC, DSO, MC, CBE, Lord of all the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular -- not of him, but of his personal physician, a Scotsman who (early in the film) puts his finger on a spinning globe to decide where he wants to go to start up his medical career and finds Uganda. Once he gets there he starts having sex with any married woman he can find, and along the way he stumbles into the employ of the title character. We get a few queasy glimpses into Amin's bizarre violence against his own people (about 300,000 of whom died at his order), but mostly it's about the physician's slow discovery that his boss is a weirdo. Which we knew. Forrest Whitaker does a smashing job of playing Amin, but we really don't get to see that much of his career in this movie.
