Yet another beautiful picture to inspire us all! Give us your fiction - anything from haiku to novel. (Just keep it YA-appropriate, and something LGBTQ.) - if you need more than one comment box for work over about 2,000 words, feel free to reserve sequential boxes, then go back and edit in the sections. And do mark the end of your story with a symbol (like ### or "end") so we know when comments can begin. Have fun! We eagerly await your contributions!!

Darren (dwite) | 359 comments I am thinking for a good one right now. I only have one arm to write at the moment, and am flat on my back, so it will take a little while, but I WILL have something ready soon :D

Darren (dwite) | 359 comments SUNSET

I'm sitting in my chair watching you
The tablet in my hand glowing softly
You both look so amazing, horses too
Sandhills, dunes, sunset, it is lovely

I love it how you share your trip with me
How your camera is set up to film this
How you wish this all for me to see
I smile, bow over the screen, kiss.

I wheel my chair to where your photo is
And mine, our hands with golden rings
I love you so, and I will never miss
How warm and soft your love inside me sings

Two men on horseback, one is mine
His silhouette identifies the other
I know them both, disappearing sunshine
Loves both my husband and his brother.

message 15: by Darren (new)

Darren (dwite) | 359 comments Sometimes I am dreaming of this, it's as frightening as it is beautiful. "Do it", my physiotherapist often says "It is good for you. It will relax your muscles and it will rhythmically relax the whole of you. I know a place, they are good, they work with all sorts of disabled people".

Hmm. Yeah. I know I should give it a try, but there is something about me you should know. I am a city-child. I grew up between high buildings, cars, screeching trams and toddlers in prams. A horse is an animal from cowboy-movies and Olympics.

Its back and saddle are high and I have a terrible fear of height. And then having to balance my fragile brittle back on THAT? Don't they see it is scary?

He grins and says "tomorrow you and I will go to the beach and we will watch people on horseback pass by". "In your dreams", I retort. "Not even if I buy you ice cream afterwards?" I know a bribe when I see one, but all the same I sigh and give in.

The next day then we drive to the beach, and he parks my chair on the road and carries me himself in his strong arms to the top of a dune, near the bridleway. It's still warm in the sunset, and I love watching the sun slowly lower itself into the sea. Soft wind lifts my curls and I close my eyes.

"There, see?" His happy voice wakes me up and there they are. Two HUGE horses, with two handsome men in the saddle. To be honest, the men are far more interesting than the horses. Those are dark, looming and stuff for nightmares. My physiotherapist sighs happily while they pass.

"Now, can we get ice cream?" I poke him. "Sure", he says. And off we go. "Want to try riding?" He asks hopefully. "Listen, you big idiot", I say. "It is YOU drooling over horses, not me. YOU go riding and I will happily watch you do it from a distance, and I will always agree to have ice cream with you afterwards. Deal?"

He looks down at me warily, but then smiles and nods. We have the biggest vanilla ice cream I have ever seen. This was one of the best nights of my life. Thanks, horsies!

Darren (dwite) | 359 comments LONGING

My dream was to ride
Not on horseback, no, on your motorcycle,
with you
With my hair in the wind
A whirling tornado of curls
Lashing out at your back and helmet
And my arms wrapped around you
With my eyes closed
While sunlight etched trees
we passed
In lively paintings in my brain

But here I am
Sitting between your legs
So you can keep me upright
And your one arm tightly around me
While holding the reigns with the other
I close my eyes and lean against you
Feeling in your warm chest
A little fire burning
within
you and I

Perhaps that is all the motorcycle I need
Being with you on horseback
While you prevent me from falling
And I am keeping you in the saddle
Perhaps that is what we do,
metaphor for our lives.

Amelia S. (amelia_e_s) | 3 comments It's not too far ahead Jonas.
I told the others to just hold on, but they left.
See, they are non believers of the well up ahead.
They are traditions.
Alex, stop yapping, you sound like my mother, calling me for dinner.
I could use some Alex.
I know Jonas, but it's not too far ahead Jonas.

What felt like days were only hours in the suns room.
Jonas has gone tired, and too perched to continue.
He wants to retreat back to the others.

I must go Alex, the others will be mad that I left with a member of my own, over family.
Maybe they will forgive me.
Forgive you Jonas, for what, we are different, and we'll find the well on our own.
They can't see it, or believe it, that's there fault.
Faith, and trust between us two, will get us to the well.
The suns room may drain our energy, but our warmth is stronger then any sun Jonas.

But, I must go.
Do you believe Jonas?
Yes.
Then stay.

They continue there journey in the suns room, but Jonas is too weak.
He falls off of his horse too parched to speak.

Hold on Jonas, it's not too far.

Alex leads the way, holding Jonas's hand each step of the way.

What felt like days, were only hours in the suns room, and Alex found the well.
He feeds the horses, and allow them to drink.
Though there journey wouldn't be possible.
After, he cares for Jonas.

See Jonas, it's here.

But Jonas was still asleep.
The suns room was too strong, but Jonas wasn't weak.
So, Alex never left his side.

Days past, which felt like hours.
Alex never left his side.

He'd whisper secrets, legends, and poems of the sun room, that was impossible to cross.

Then one day, Jonas's eyes opened again.
But, now Alex was asleep.

For he never touched the well for himself.
Jonas sees, and tries to plea, and wake Alex.

He opens his eyes for a moment, and they shine in the suns room.

You're alive Jonas.
Yes, now i'll guide you.

They look at each other one more time, with their hands intertwined, until Alex lets go, and Jonas cries.

You are the biggest warmth in this suns room.

Jonas said to Alex.

Amelia E. S.

Thanks for the warm and loving story, Amelia. I liked this sentence a lot:
"He'd whisper secrets, legends, and poems of the sun room, that was impossible to cross".
And:
"You are the biggest warmth in this suns room".

Reader of Books (riathewannabelibrarian) | 6 comments "Two Cowboys a'Hunting"

They were searching for them. The bandits that had raided their cabin home, killing and burning and leaving nothing but darkness in the wake of their arrival.

Now they were gone.

And two cowboys were going a'hunting.

Each had lost something. Their pasts were a tangled mess. They were different people from different worlds.

Along the way, they would learn to love again.

But they wouldn't feel safe...

Until they'd gone a'hunting.

*~*

It's short, but hopefully it meets all the requirements. =)

Thank you!

The two cowboys were Joeff and Will. Both gad known each other for years, and both had been in denial. But all boundaries were pushed aside as they rode, intent on catching those murdering b*st*rds.

"We should catch them in two days," Joeff grumbled, as they pulled to a brief stop.

"We're getting to old for this sh*t," Will responded, starting up a fire for coffee.

Joeff stared at him for a long moment, taking in his best friend, wondering how his feelings had started to change, wondering if it was worth expressing them.

His fear got in the way, and he turned and headed to the nearby tree for a p*ss, staring up at the stars.

It was going to be a long two days.

The Magic of Sunset
by Jason Williams and Darren White

I am scared to be on horseback,
I am scared to fall down hard
I don't want to be touched,
I can not let down my guard.

It's normal to be scared,
It's your first time, I know.
I'll show you how to hold the reigns
I promise we'll go slow.

Can we go there very careful?
Step by step, and not too fast?
You steer me in the right direction
Please, I had a scary past....

Just relax and find the rhythm,
The magic is hidden there.
Once you find it, you will know.
The magic we will share.

And slowly I relax and feel
The rhythm of the horse's pace
I follow your lead carefully
The setting sun sets us ablaze

Into the night we'll carry on
Till twilight, then we'll rest
We'll set camp and by firelight,
your head upon my chest.
