Rachel Hi guys I'm pretty new to this group but I thought I'd have a new discussion. As Halloween is just around the corner I would love to know what everyone's favourite horror movie is.

C. | 51 comments I would have to say that my #1 is Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark. The 1973 original with Kim Darby, NOT the crap remake! Just read those reviews, lol!

I also love Duel with Dennis Weaver~http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067023/?...

My library has DBAOTD on DVD and I own a VHS copy. It only came out on DVD a few years ago, so it might be hard to find, unless you buy it from Amazon.

Also must watch The Trilogy Of Terror with Karen Black~http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073820/

For modern day horror[not slasher-gore-porn] I'm very happy with all three of the Insidious films, plus- Annabelle and The Conjuring. Haven't seen The Conjuring 2 yet.

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) | 22 comments I love Dawn of the Dead, it remains a film that still has me jumping. I'm a huge zombie fan (they are the coolest of the monsters). Of course, I love Night of the Living Dead and Land of the Dead as well, the first 2 Resident Evil (even though they are a little sci-fi), and The Walking Dead series.

Werner | 1805 comments Rachel, you might also be interested in this thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... .

I've watched and liked a good many movies with supernatural themes, but not all or even most of them are horrific in nature. But of those that are, I think my favorite is the 1999 Masterpiece Theatre adaptation of Henry James' classic The Turn of the Screw, starring Jodhi May and Colin Firth. Here's a link with more information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0209440/ .

Do you have a favorite horror movie, Rachel? :-)

message 7: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Well Werner what can i say. There are so many great horror movies out there but there are also some down right awful ones, trust me I think I've seen them all. To say I have a favourite would be difficult.
I love so many that are based on Stephen King novels, my favourites of his which I would not consider as horror are Delores Clairbourn and Dreamcatcher. But if I had to choose one movie that I loved would strangely be Blair Witch Project. It may have been a cheap film and not great quality but the mystery of not knowing what was out there and what they were capable of is what makes this, for me anyway, a great horror film.

Marie There is so many out there, but favorite movie of all time is probably Stephen King's "Christine" as I have watched it more than a few times. I make sure I watch it every Halloween.

Well there is one that will scare you out of your wits! Also it is kind of unknown but it is scary.

See if you can find the movie: 100 Feet - it is about a woman that was physically abused by her husband - she shot him in self defense and was sent to prison, but they finally release her on house arrest back to the house where she killed her husband - the house is haunted by him. The main actress that plays the part of the woman is Famke Janssen (she played in the X-Men movies) - she is awesome in this creepy movie.

Another movie that is a great ghost story is:

What Lies Beneath with Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfieffer - very creepy movie about a ghost that is haunting the property and house where a couple live. There is a twist near the end of the movie that reveals why the ghost is haunting the property.

Another great ghost movie is really a mini-series by Stephen King called: Rose Red - it is a four hour mini-series, but probably can be tracked down to buy or rent. It is about a professor that takes a team of physics into a house that has a history of bad things happening within the house or on the property, but when they all arrive and get settled in then the house wakes up with paranormal activity. It is very spooky to watch.

That is about all I can think of at the moment. If I think of more I will add them in here. :)

Katrina | 21 comments I like Rose Red, too! I add The Conjuring movies and The Woman In Black.

Great call, Alan! I remember watching Trick r' Treat when my wife was sleeping in the other room. The entire werewolf scene made me like popcorn in my seat and woke her up, lol. But I love that movie!
