DHASG October Challenge

Introduction: October is here. This can be a fun and for some of us, spooky, month. Here's to a awesome, enjoyable month of reading, whether you like your October scary or not! Enjoy fall finally!

Rules:

1. Any DHASG member can participate in the challenge.
2. Books must be read between October 1st and October 31st.
3. A book may only be used once for this challenge.
4. Post or link to your final stats when you are completed.
5. In your stats, list book name, author and date read. Unless obvious, include why you choose a certain book in parentheses in your stats.

Levels:

1. Ten to a Dozen: Read 10-12 books.
2. Almost A Perfect Ten : Read 6-9 books.
3. Five Will Get You Ten: Read 3-5 books.

Categories
:

1.Project Spooky: In order to have a scary October, read a book that is scary or has some thrills and chills.
2.Trick or Treat: Just like kids go from house to house to get some yummy candy, trick or treat in your tbr pile and randomly pick a book to read this month for this part of the challenge.
3.Cookie Month: Since October is Cookie Month, read a book that reminds you of a type of cookie and tell us which and why. Here's a list of cookies to choose from:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...
4.Pumpkin Fever!:If you go anywhere, you realize it's Pumpkin Fever. With the advent of fall, you can sample plenty of delicious foods that are pumpkin-flavored, and you can even buy pumpkins to decorate your yard/porch. For the love of pumpkin, read a book that represents an aspect/fact of pumpkins and tell us what you picked. Here is a list of pumpkin facts:
http://www.pumpkin-patch.com/facts.html
5.Sarcasm Is Celebrated This Month!: For reals, this is Sarcasm Month. So read a book with a lead character who is known for being sarcastic. Alternatively, you could read a book with a sarcastic-sounding title.
6.What's The Name of Your...Car??: For Name Your Car Day on October 2nd, let's celebrate cars. Read a book that represents or reminds you of a car. Maybe there's a car on the cover, or the lead character is into cars. Or if you read a book with a character who has the same name as one of the cars in "Gone in 60 Seconds," that would be groovy. You can find the list of car names here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0187078/t...
7.Do Something Nice: For this holiday on October 5th, let's celebrate being nice to others. Read a book where a character makes a habit of doing this, or there is a scene in the book that really strikes you as illustrating this day perfectly.
8.Mad Hatter Day: In honor of this character from
"Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll, this is a holiday on October 6th. The Mad Hatter is of course, mad (crazy), and he wears a hat, and he's silly. How about reading a book that represents The Mad Hatter in some way?
9.Fire Prevention Day: For this day on October 9th, let's celebrate Fire Safety! You could do this by honoring firefighters by reading a book with a lead character who does this for a living, or you could demonstrate fire awareness by reading a book with a fire theme on the cover or a name that brings to mind fire in some way. Let us know what you pick.
10.Party Like a Rock Star!: For It's My Party Day on October 11th, let's have a party. Could this be because of all the birthdays in the fall? Just a thought. Anyhoo, read a book where a party takes place, or someone is celebrating a birthday or another occasion that leads to partying. Yes, even a wedding counts!
11.Dictionary Day:This is celebrated on October 16th, and it's in honor of Noah Webster, the Father of the American Dictionary. Read a book that has a title that is a word that isn't typically used or known. You could even count a book that has a word or words you didn't know prior to reading the book. Another way to meet this challenge is to read a book with a character who uses words for a living (writer, politician, editor, journalist, etc.).
12.You May Pick One of These!: Okay, pick one of these holidays to read for this part of the challenge--No Beard Day, Wear Something Gaudy Day, Punk For a Day Day, Navy Day, National Tell a Story Day.

Bonus: Monster Party: Read a book that represents one of the classic monster types: witch, Frankenstein's monster, ghost, mummy, zombie, demon/devil, werewolf. If you can think of another type, welcome to use it. Just tell us which one.
