Thank you, Jackie ! I've already read and loved several Sue Grafton and Patricia Cornwell novels and I plan on reading Lisa Scottoline pretty soon :)
Welcome to the group, Iza. I'm sure you'll get many excellent recommendations. Check out our Bookshelf and our monthly reading selections. :)
Welcome, Red Iza. I'm a big John Dickson Carr fan. Working my way through Simenon, after being introduced to him in college french and so we tried to read it in french. I'm sure I missed most of the story.

Bienvenue Iza!I am a great fan of Marcia Muller, who is very much in the style you mentioned. If you can, begin with Edwin of the Iron Shoes.
Not sure what you would make of Cara Black's Aimee Leduc series, set in Paris. Cara is American and writes in English. Aimee is American & French and runs a detective agency in Paris.
You might also look at Laurie R. King's books. I love her Kate Martinelli series. She has also written a series that imagines Sherlock Holmes befriending, then marrying a wonderful blue-stocking called Mary Russell. The first few are great, with lots of nods to classic crime / thriller fiction as well as Holmes; but I'm afraid I have rather gone off the more recent ones that feel repetitive.
Merci Jacky !Ah yes, the beekeeper's apprentice, I heard good things about it ! Many thanks for the suggestions, I've added them to my to-read list :) Sorry, gotta go, my replacement is claiming my computer !
Hi, Iza. I, too, like P. D. James I also like Paris very much. I have been to Paris twice, Now, though, I have MS and am unable to travel.

I've already read a good deal of them that don't appear on Goodreads, mostly classics : all the Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle - my favorite, a few Rex Stout, J.D. Carr, Simenon, Maurice Leblanc, Wilkie Collins and so on (many years ago). I once devoured all the Val McDermid, Ruth Rendell and P.D. James I could lay my hands on.
These days, I'm on a Kathy Reichs/Lisa Gardner reading binge, both authors I love for very different reasons.
I'd love to discover more female authors in that field and thought this group would be a good idea - especially since I already have a few friends here.
Have a good day :)
