Tegan Does anyone know which of her previous characters from her other books show up in this book? Thanks

Amy From what I've read, apparently lion from heart of the matter appears at a random bar

Tegan I was really hoping that Tessa would have shown up too...would love an update on her. Curious if she and nick worked things out.

Tegan I totally agree, but I feel tessa would be happy with or without nick in the long run. She was a class act! Nick on the other hand, would always regret what he had done....I wasn't so sure about his future.

Tegan, I apologize to you. I did one more search on Lion in The One and Only, and he IS there. There was a 3rd page of references and I didn't see it before. It's a short reference but interesting.

Tegan I'll check it out...still wish it was tessa.

Tegan Oh wow...so valerie did get in touch with Lion and tell him about Charlie. Charlie got his dad.

Yes, at least we know he is happy now. It doesn't look like Valerie is with Lion though. Maybe she can find another woman's husband to run after. (Sorry, that wasn't very nice).

Tegan Haha...yeah, my bet is that Valerie is still alone and miserable.

Tegan There was no way she was with Nick....not a chance. Even if he wasn't able to work things out with with Tessa, he was done with her. I too wonder about Tessa and Nick, were they able to reconcile and be happy. Maybe they had a another baby? So many questions remained at the end of the book.

Tegan I thought Lion lived in Texas? Or was it California? I'm not sure if how Tessa and Nick could ever reconcile with the thought of having to run into Valerie. Nick would be embarrassed and ashamed, Tessa would be hurt. I bet they moved back to NYC.

Tegan I was glad for Charlie as well. It's ironic to me, that Tessa was the one who enabled Valerie to reach out to Lion. Tessa showed Valerie grace, which allowed her to look and subsequently find Lion.

Nick's parents lived in Boston and tessa mom, also lived in NYC.

Tegan I just thought of something....I have no idea how Valerie could even stay in Boston. She would be so embarrassed at her behaviour, not only did she cheat with a married man, but he dumped her. Pretty pathetic. Tessa could hold her head up high..so Poor Valerie.lol

Tegan Totally agree...from the way EG described her appearance, I didn't really think she was attractive. In fact,Tessa almost overlooked her in the bookstore, lol. Nick always refereed to Tessa as beautiful, but I never got the feeling that Nick was sexually attracted to her, really. He was just messed up and having a midlife crisis.

Whitney Somehow I missed the mention of Lion in The One and Only. Does anyone remember which chapter he's in? I love that EG references past characters!

The reference to Lion and Charlie appear in "The One and Only" in chapter 27.

I'm hoping that Nick, Tessa and Valerie appear in EG's next book. The timing seems about right. We can hope anyways.

Tegan Nick was ripe for an affair, I totally agree. It could have been anyone.

Nick totally affaired down with Valerie, so not worth it. He risked everything for the most boring, needy, plain jane.

I could not agree more with your statement...and that is why in a weird way, I wish Tessa would have dumped him, so he could have seen what a horrible mistake Valerie was. imagine him and Valerie together, lol, what a disaster that would have been. She was way to needy and insecure for him.

Jessica I totally missed this reference, maybe because I didn't love The Heart of the Matter??

It seems that a lot of people missed it. When I read the reviews from The One and Only, it is hardly ever mentioned. I did like Heart of the Matter but it left us with a lot of loose ends and I was hoping for some past references. Maybe Emily's next book will give us a glimpse into what is happening with Nick, Tessa and Valerie. I hope Nick and Tessa are still together - happily.

In another review I read recently a reader complained that the reference to Charlie and Lion was too short, especially when Dex and Rachel from previous books rated pages of updating in Heart of the Matter. I agree with her.

Don't punish yourself by not reading her books She is a very good writer and you will likely enjoy other books she has written. I am surprised that an author of EG's calibre doesn't have a personal assistant. It is quite easy to review books through goodreads though.
