Ha! Jen, although your delirious writing is hilarious, I hope you are feeling better soon. Take care.
Two words: Fantastic Review! Is it bad that my curiosity concerning this book is now peaked? Although, maybe the book was the root cause of your delirium ... Maybe I should stay away.
Hope you feel better soon!
Nicole- I think it was good. Weird but most his books are weird. If you read it, you have to explain what happened to me :)
Um, all I'm going to say is that you clearly need to take a lot of Advil right now and watch like soap operas on television until you are recuperated. No more reading. Doctor's Wife's orders.

ha ha! it has morphed into the common cold today so I'm feeling much better but I will be reading some lighter fare until fully recovered.

I listened to this book and had completed about 60% before I came down with what feels like the plague but is most likely the flu or some version of world ending virus. I listened to the remaining 40% half delirious and completely raving. So what better time for writing a review than while I continue to lie in bed feeling like I'm floating on a bed of fire?
I have no idea what I just read. The book opens with the protagonist Seth's death by suicide but then continues after his death when he wakes up in a weird place that oddly enough looks exactly like the village in England where his family were living before his 4 year old brother was abducted. Is this place the afterlife? Is it heaven or hell? Seth finds a few other kids then this is pretty much where I lost all semblance of reality. There's some weird robot dude who shows up and starts chasing the kids. At times he seems to ooze black stuff but perhaps those were my fever delusions. A lot of weird stuff happens. Or does it? I couldn't really tell you. I fell asleep listening to it then when I woke up the kids were in some strange room filled with coffins. At one point I thought I was hallucinating or was I sleeping? Things seemed to melt, people were connected to odd wires, Seth was chased by some monster man that will probably give me nightmares tonight - because I still have a fever of 101. At one point I think fell out of bed. Or was it a character who fell out of a coffin? Either way, I broke my favorite mug which I later discovered when stepped on it about 4 hours later. For some reason I was wearing shoes in bed so I didn't cut myself.
Anyway, my point is that it's never a good idea to read when delirious. I've said before that I don't typically like a lot of YA but I do like Patrick Ness. His writing is sophisticated, his topics are often gruesome and difficult - seeming more like adult fiction than YA. This wasn't my favorite of his books but then again, I seemed to like it much more when I was lucid. It's filled with a lot of existential stuff like what makes our experiences worthwhile and what is real vs perception.
If it sounds interesting, you should check out other reviews because clearly this review won't help you any.
