Does the author have to have the entire state name in his/her name? For example, would Lynn York work for New York?

Sorry, no - the entire state name has to be in the title/author name.

No problem. I found the book I'm going to use; I just wanted to clarify in case I should keep digging for something I liked better :D Thank you!
Just to be clear -- for the one book option, the state in the title needs to be DIFFERENT from the state where the book is set?So for instance, The Hotel New Hampshire, which is also set in New Hampshire, would not work?

that's correct - for either the one or two book options, you must use different states.

Hi Sandy, I have a question for you. The book I am wanting to read for part 2 of this task is Dirty Blonde
the description there doesn't really say but the next book which is Daddy's Girl refers to the character from Dirty Blonde being a law professor in Pennsylvania.
Here is also the link at fantastiction that tells more about Dirty Blonde. http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/l...
Will this work?

Thanks Shelly & Sheila. That series is set all over the place so it's lucky for me that the one I'm up to happens to be set in New York. :)
Approval that this book works for BOTH option A & Option B.
A) Nevada Barr (author name NEVADA)
B) Endangered Species (set in GEORGIA)

These don't really sound like my type of books, but my local library does have them. Just want to make sure they are OK in case I do the one-book option.(author name Virginia, set in North Carolina)
Home Before Midnight by Virginia Kantra, set in North Carolina
or
Carolina Home by Virginia Kantra, Book One of a series of four, all set on a North Carolina island.

yes, that will work since GR lists "The Real Virginia Andrews" as an author. You'll need to explain the setting when you post, since the GR description doesn't mention it.

Would The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Other Stories by Washington Irving work for both criteria? It is a collection of short stories, a few of which are set in England, but most are set in the 13 states listed. Rip Van Winkle and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, being the two most known and by far the longest in the book, are both set in New York.

If more than half the book is set in NY, it works.

It sounds from the description that the book is mostly set in NC, so that works fine.

Also found An Age of Madness by David Maine which is set in Boston for anyone still looking. Too bad my library doesn't have it...
Washington Square set in New York to satisfy both options with the one book? Although the GR description doesn't mention New York, the metafile data, reader reviews, and the main page genres do indicate that it is set in New York.OR
Colorado Kid set in Maine?
Thanks!!

Unfortunately, Maine was not one of the original 13 colonies, so this won't work.

My Salinger Year I want to read this for part B and it is set in New York City. I take it that when we post we can just state the settings since they are either described within the Goodreads book summary or clear after reading? Thanks!

Also she does have a stand-alone book:

Presumably, you should be able to tell when you read the book - if it is set in Georgia (or another original colony - the description says Southeastern U.S.), just say so when you post.
