Jane (PS) | 24475 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Team Captain - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of Disney, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 9 September.

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Jane (PS) | 24475 comments Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts.

For the initial selection post Option 1 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please insert a link to the qualifying bookshelf/list.
If the theme is based off the bookcover or a letter in the title etc, please just repeat the theme.

For the initial selection post Option 2 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

For the completion post I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 1918 comments Hi everyone! Just came home from a 7-hour grape harvesting by hand, followed by an excellent dinner with good company and plenty of great wine. I'm dead on my feet, needless to say and Jane's message was a nice surprise. I'll try to read non-mm books for this challenge but I don't know whether I 'll succeed. My favorite name is Vicious ... but I also like Beauties... although I don't care much about Disney.

Empty Net (Scoring Chances #4) by Avon Gale

This series just keeps getting better and better.
Laurent's story is told with compassion. A difficult up rining , a bully for a father and an eating disorder.
I really never disliked him so it didnt take long for him to redeem himself.
Its great that we saw a lot of Max and Misha.
Isaas and Laurent were good together. Isaac was so patient with Laurent, waiting for him to come to terms with his sexuality.
I guess book 5 might be about Cavier and Coach Callahan.

I wish though we could have a .5 book which would tell us how past couples are getting on. I really miss Lane.

I think I liked every book of Marie Sexton I've read but this one didn't work for me. I haven't read anything else about Mormons, so I don't know a thing about them and I can't say whether the Binder family was realistically depicted. However, I didn't enjoy their preachiness and their expectations regarding Levi. As for Levi, I didn't like him from the beginning and didn't warm up to him, although I appreciated his effort to change his lifestyle and his caring for Jaime.

Week 1 ~ Option 2: Fight the Tide

9/10

I'm so happy this has become a series and there's still more to come. I didn't enjoy this quite as much as book 1, but it was still a fun and emotional ride.

Parker and Adam are having to rely on each other for everything. They meet some other survivors along the way, but because of their prior experiences it was hard to trust the other people they met.

I just loved the family they created for themselves. There were some heartbreaking scenes, but I'm left feeling hopeful for their future. Can't wait to see what happens next.

At first I thought this is just another sugary sweet story about a common girl meets a gorgeous rich guy who instantly falls madly in love with her. It's been done million times and this kind of instalove/instalust stories usually follow the same path all over again. It needs to be something special, a twist in a story or a special character to make this boring plot into interesting and I got my twist and I ended up liking this book.
Can't complain about the writing style, it was light and fun. Loved the main male character Graham but her love interest Soraya left me cold. She was too arrogant.
I might be picking up another Penelope Ward / Vi Keeland book to read in future.

And about the dog - don't know how this book ended on the books with pet's list because it was only mentioned couple of times that one of the main characters has a dog. Sadly, the dog had no part in this story :(

Review: This was a cute read! The main characters (Min and Cal) started off not necessarily hating each other, but definitely not grooving on each other. She was too cranky, he was too 'charming' (read that as you will). Needless to say, circumstances brought them together throughout the book. I liked the author's writing and character development, good secondary characters (and a cat) that added significantly to the overall story. I would recommend this one.

Wax (waxapplelover) | 337 comments Week #1 - Books With Pets In Them - COMPLETION POST

Tell Me It's Real (At First Sight, #1) by T.J. Klune
350 pages

5 stars

There are many reasons why Tell Me It's Real is on my favorites list, and why I have it in audiobook format as well. Chief among them are the characters. TJ Klune creates multifaceted characters, and that includes secondary characters who are just as memorable if not more so than the main ones.

I think many could identify with Paul Auster. He's a shy, somewhat overweight man who's in a dead end job. He has a family that loves him and a best friend who's a drag queen. Needless to say, he did not suffer from family alienation when he came out. However, he finds it hard to connect with people and he hasn't found that special someone. One reason is due to his worries about appearance. Rightly or wrongly, appearances do matter to many people, and the gay community reminds him of that when he goes to bars. Second is due to the way he speaks, blurting things out and sputtering when nervous. So when a hot guy comes along and asks him on a date, he doesn't for a minute think it could be real. Surely he's being punked, or as he puts it, Freddie Prinze Juniored. But Vince isn't your stereotypical too hot for words buff gay man. He may seem like he has it made, but his family is a bit messed up and he isn't the sharpest tool in the kit. And no matter what anyone says, he wants to get to know Paul. Even if it takes some bike shorts and a minor collision.

But this book isn't for everyone. While there is some angst, it's not overwhelming. In fact, there's actually a good deal of humor, thanks to Paul and his interesting family. His grandmother has a foul-mouthed parrot named Johnny Depp, for instance. And if you don't want to know more about the backstage issues of a drag queen, then this might not be for you (nor it's sequel The Queen & the Homo Jock King). But for me, this book hits the spot as a comfort read.
