Male and definitely Russian speaking, I looked up their homepage hunting for translations. I suppose they may be from one of the other Russian speaking countries. Sandy Blonde and 30's is my vague recollection of the author Picture.
A normal guy on earth stumbles into a "transfer station"When you say "transfer station", is that your literal translation of the Russian phrase that was used? Or is it a phrase that was used in the English description/ "fake" English title?
Hi Anna, Sorry for my vagueness, but I honestly don't remember. Most likely from the fake English description, my Russian is just about good enough to get me drunk, buy a hamburger, and get me into trouble and not much else.
I did look at the other author you had posted earlier, but didn't really see anything that rang a bell there (lovey covers on a lot of those books though!)
It looks like I caused some confusion and I am sorry for that. I think that in the second part of your post you are referring to my (not the other Anna's) comment about Павел Корнев, that I deleted shortly after posting (I did it because I found out that none of his books descriptions fits even remotely) :).

I think I managed to solve this, and I would have done so a lot sooner if I hadn't been so stuck sure some of the details I remembered were right, because they weren't. It's almost certainly Черновик which is of course by Lukyanenko who I ruled out in the very first post. Doh. And he doesn't fit my description (right age, gender and nationality, but very far from blonde), but the dude on the cover of the hardback (i.e., likely the protagonist) does. You'd think, being a long time member of this group, I'd know better than to trust my own memory.
The Wikipedia plot summary is so very close to what I remembered this has to be it. Not the execution exactly, but he was being slowly erased from this universe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rough_D...

yep, that's what I thought when I read your description!
Sorry to say this Krazykiwi, but if you hadn't said it was not Lukianenko, I would have suggested the book, because I have bought (but not yet read) the German edition a few months ago. Glad you solved it yourself! :)
IKR! I feel really dumb. But I was so sure and I went through all his books and didn't spot it. It's sort of ok though, since it's not available in English or Swedish yet.
Yeah, unfortunately a lot of his books haven't been translated to English. A Swedish translation is more likely imo. Keeping my fingers crossed you'll get a chance to read this. :)

From what I can remember:
- As above, book may have an English title and description, despite actually being only available in Russian. It's definitely listed on GR, this is where I found it.
- It's a series, I think almost positive there were three books.
- I am pretty sure they were fairly recent (2000's, maybe even 2010+). I have a feeling the third of the three books was really recent, in the last year or so.
Plot, based on a vague recollection of reading only the descriptions:
- A normal guy on earth stumbles into a "transfer station" (and something like that might have been the name of either the first book or the series.) I can't remember exactly what they were though, or if it was alien tech or more a fantasy/UF type thing.
- Dude is basically given a choice to either be executed (I think) or work for the stations.
- He makes the obvious choice, and maybe gets some kind of super powers as a result, maybe immortality, but after a while finds it's not all peachy after all. Possibly in the later books he ends up in some kind of rebellion.
Already checked and definitely not by Dmitry Glukhovsky, or the Strugatskys (but I checked their books just in case). Pretty sure it's not Lukyanenko either. I am pretty sure they were trade published, so probably a "name" Russian publisher.
