Wow! What a debut novel! I loved it; brilliant!

Kerri_M | 693 comments Finished it tonight, and agree with Brenda. A very good read.

The part where they were talking about the art of the school children reflecting the drought reminded me that when I was about 10, living on a farm in a country town in severe drought, I won a prize at the local show for a painting of dead sheep in a dry paddock. So top marks for realism :)

Carol - Reading Writing and Riesling | 47 comments A wonderful read and a debut! such talent. - this one really does leap out to be made into a film - my review here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Kerri | 71 comments What a fantastic debut novel, I will be watching out for more from this author. I grew up in a small country town and well remember going through droughts and the fear of bushfires. I didn't see the first twist coming though I did guess the second one. Hard to believe this was a debut, the best one I can remember reading in a long time.

MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) If some academic institution were to run a course called "How to Write the Perfect Crime Novel", The Dry would be the text book. It is so well crafted, and so easy to read - what a ripper!

Reading all your great reviews I have to say that I really enjoyed it too and gave it five stars. My review is only so tiny because I am recovering from a very nasty bug and my brain isn't fully functioning yet.

Carolyn | 1471 comments I like short reviews Phrynne, succinct and to the point. Sorry to hear you've been sick, hope you're getting over it now.

That's excellent David. It was an exceptional debut I thought...I'll definitely be looking for her next!

message 18: by Jack (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jack | 3 comments Just got to this one this month and finished it.
Loved the story and way it was told. Falk was Such a great character and raco too.
Very intense feeling and moods created from the stress of the drought and the unknown about the past. How sad was finding out how luke, karen and billy died? Also ellie's death scene at the end was horrifying and so sad.
Look forward to more jane harper novels.

Icewineanne | 151 comments Ejoyed this with the exception of the diary at the end. No way Ellie could have written what happened after she was already dead.
