Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments "He kept a leech on his forehead to get rid of headache."
Strange!!!

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Done.
The BR ended before even starting properly :(
I hate such small BRs :/

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Now, I think this was for children.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Her husband offered to have their old umbrella dyed blue; she gave him a scornful look, and loved him a little less than before.

Remember the girl twin (Estha or Rahel) from The God of Small Things, and her rocks-and-bucket theory. Reminds me of that.

message 8: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Don't remem the rock bucket thoery :(

Lets continue reading some more Bond over here. Suggest the bigger ones and I'm in for it :)

message 9: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 89 comments I am currently reading rain in the mountains notes from the himalayas.

message 10: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Rain in the mountain looks lovely too. And not very small at 230 pages. How much you've read Rebecca? And this is non-fiction right?

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Umm... Rahel was the female one, na?
So, once Rahel did something wrong, and Ammu said she loved her a little less now, for what she had done. And Rahel, heart-broken by it, discovers a theory. According to her, her mother's love for her is equivalent to a bucket full of rocks. Every time she does something wrong, the bucket loses a rock, becomes less heavy, thus her mother loves her less than before. And one day, the bucket will be empty.
I guess that was it.

Just a few pages in. It is in the form of ramblings by the author.

Horus Hello everyone! I have just joined this group. I came to know about this thread from Gorab. I am currently reading Tales of Fosterganj. Please let me know when you start reading next book by Mr. Bond. Meanwhile, I will get an overview of the activities going on, in the group.
just bought Delhi Is Not Far. I will start reading today. I guess I am lil late but I will try to finish it in 2-3 days. In addition, if any one is up for Tales of Fosterganj by Ruskin Bond let me know.

message 34: by Gorab (last edited Jul 25, 2016 03:25AM) (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Welcome Nishith.
Glad you joined this group and I'm sure you'd be glad to join too in some time :)

The next reads of Bond will be decided right here by all of us. [I'd have joined in for Fosterganj, but let me check its availability. Plus I'm already in for Rain in Mountain with Reb.]

Its not too late for Delhi as none of us has completed it (maybe?). Considering its a small book, just hop along :)

message 35: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments I have neither Tales of Fosterganj nor Rain in the Mountains :(
Thought I'd have them in his unabridged collection named "Classic Ruskin Bond"

What I have :
Classic Ruskin Bond: Complete & Unabridged
The Writer on the Hill: The Very Best of Ruskin Bond

message 36: by Gorab (last edited Jul 25, 2016 04:33AM) (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Would prefer to read Rain in the Mountain (RIM) as late as possible. Because that contains the thought process of how he came up with the stories.
Read a part about Bijju and how he thought of writing Blue Umbrella.

As I'm very new to Ruskin Bond, will reserve RIM after reading considerable stories. Similar to how I wish to read My Memoirs by RKN after reading all of Malgudi.

message 38: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments No idea. Guess all of them should be great :P
Have seen the film "7 Khoon Maaf".

message 39: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 89 comments I too am shelving rain in the mountains as I feel it is somewhat similar to Delhi. will come to it at a later time.

message 50: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Ruskin Bond made his maiden big screen appearance with a cameo in Vishal Bhardwaj's film 7 Khoon Maaf, based on his short story Susanna's Seven Husbands. Bond appears as a Bishop in the movie with Priyanka Chopra playing the title role.
