Megalion | 484 comments Fannie Flagg is one of those magic story tellers like Maeve Binchy and Jodi Picoult where you know you're in for a very good read.

This book was no different.

Yet one thing that was noticeably different: it's true historical fiction. She covers a piece of omitted history from WWII. The women pilots who picked up the slack in ferrying planes and supplies around when most of the male ones were sent to the front lines to fly there.

Apparently they were so pissed off about this that they did their best to obliterate this from history by whitewashing any of the women's part in this from any of the stories.

Another fun piece of history that Fannie resurrects is the birth of the classic American vacation: ROAD TRIPS!

Highly recommended read. Even if you're not one for "women's fiction", this is as much historical fiction too.
