Laurie Mears | 3 comments Young girl is put (left?) on ship in Chinese? harbor when missionary family gets sick. Ends up on pirate ship. Pirate captain is female in disguise who causes first mate to have feelings he doesn't understand. The young girl may end up being the captain or being protected by the captain. I thought the book was called "Jade." I read it in the late 60s or early 70s, at a clueless age, so for all I know it may have been a romance novel. Possibly set in late 1700s.

Thanks. I don't think that's it, because the one I'm looking for is set in the Pacific, but I think I'll read it anyway. :-)

Laurie Mears | 3 comments I think I can switch this to Solved. I actually had to purchase Jade by Sally Watson because the only copy in the Clevnet library system was in the research archive! SW's Jade is the closest to what I remembered. I don't know which books I mentally combined, but there were no missionaries. Ended up eating more books by Sally Watson, and really enjoyed them. Thanks to everyone for the input.
