Hello everyone,

Please enter your nominations for the August 2016 Book of the Month here. I'll be taking suggestions until next Saturday, when the poll will go up. Please try to add a link to the book if possible.

Thanks,
Becky

Donna Mulvenna | 3 comments Hi Becky, If it hasn't been done before my nomination would be for the book, 'Lab girl'.

Mary Hannibal | 6 comments Hi - I recently read this slim and incredibly interesting book, We Are Amphibians by R.S. Deese. It's about brothers Julian and Aldous Huxley, both really influential in environmental thinking -- Julian the scientist who helped found UNESCO and with World Wildlife Fund, and Aldous of course the author of Brave New World. Their attitudes toward nature diverge and come together in such interesting ways. They were the grandsons of T. H. Huxley, "Darwin's bulldog."

Folks, we have a tie for August between The Lab Girl and The Sixth Extinction! Would you prefer to have another vote go out between those 2 books alone or shall I put both up for August and you can choose to read whichever you prefer?

Please let me know!
Thanks,
Becky

I vote for another vote.

John Mckernan | 18 comments Another vote would be good.
But I have to tell you, my daughter is reading "The Sixth Extinction" for her summer assignment in AP Seminar (a research based class). So I'm probably gonna read that one with her either way.

Ray Zimmerman | 660 comments I also will probably read both books either way. I have read partly through The Sixth Extinction, and I have ordered a copy of The Lab Girl.

Well, we have a tie again. :) Unless anyone has any objections, I will take Sher's suggestion from the poll comments and put up Sixth Extinction for August and Lab Girl for September.

Oh, my gosh, Ray - I'm so sorry! I got so caught up in the poll ties and getting both books set up on the homepage, I forgot to set up the discussion thread! It's now up.
