Daniel Clark Did you know that our hero Beowulf actually faces threee monsters?! Let's read and discuss which story beats the rest...

Daniel Clark Spoilers throughout...

I would have to say Grendel's mom. She gave Beowulf the most trouble, and he was only able to slay her thanks to a giant's sword that happened to be nearby.

But Grendel is pretty cool. He did melt that same giant's sword when Beowulf cut off his head with it. And that was after he had died. To have sword-melting blood is a pretty cool super power.

The fire drake (aka dragon) caused a heap of trouble, and Beowulf did end up killing it. I like the dragon, and I think Tolkien got his idea for the gold-hoarding kind of dragon he wrote about from this story. (Tolkien wrote an article called "On Translating Beowulf" where he talked about the issues of translating due to the poem's extreme age and archaic words)

Who did you like?
