Hadn't got that far, but you are right. I would have thought someone would have checked out the books before they went on to a list like this.

This is a shelf, so it's automatic. GR team works on coding the site and communication, not managing the site, and librarians have access to listopias not shelves ;)

Some of these lists are really useful tools, but when it comes to lists on Goodreads, there is no moderator or accredited source of literary oversight that is monitoring them. They are user created and are based on the creators opinion, not a source of literary value or merit. Some might have some really useful information, but others will be blatantly wrong.
Peter wrote: "Some of these lists are really useful tools, but when it comes to lists on Goodreads, there is no moderator or accredited source of literary oversight that is monitoring them. In any case, I wasn't trying to say that Jill was responsible for putting Of Mice and Men on the list/shelf/whatever. I used to think the lists were a huge help for finding books to fit prompts, but I've learned over the past year that they need to be approached with a lot of caution because of the way books are added.

The lists are a useful jumping off point and, as Peter said, can contain useful information. I'd just recommend that anyone choosing a book from a GR list double check to make sure it qualifies for whatever prompt.
Tor (tor.com) is also a pretty active publisher that isn't a top 4. They publish scifi and fantasy.I searched lists for 600+ children and YA books but found nothing. If anyone has links, they are welcome (or titles, if we have enough of them, we could create a listopia).

I am going through the top 10,000 YA books according to goodreads members now. I am adding them to a listopia:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
If anyone else has something to add, please do! It's going to take me most of the day (or longer) to go through this entire list :-)
I added some to the list but a lot that I know of are later books in a series. I did know of one standalone though Brave Story.
A very good portion of the 600+ YA books are mid to end of series books. I am finding some others however. There are more if I can find omnibus editions of series/short stories. I will work on that a bit later if I have time. Thanks for your additions Emm & Kathy and whomever the 4th person adding books might be :-)
Thanks for the listopia Amy! I added The Giver omnibus and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy (which is a short stories collection). Both are YA. I also added the Riyria series as it's considered as "safe fantasy".
Thanks Zaz! I am halfway through the YA list. The farther I get into the list, the more non-YA books I am seeing. I get the feeling that some (a lot) of people don't know what YA is exactly. Fortunately only a couple of them have met the over 600 page rule and they are already on the main list of 600 plus page books so I skipped them. I am waiting until I am done before looking at "my" listopia again. I want to see it all together before I judge how good/bad it might be. :-)
Here are two more lists for Time Travel, besides the GR lists already given in the "Suggestion for each Week" post.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dave-as...

Amy wrote: "A very good portion of the 600+ YA books are mid to end of series books. I am finding some others however. There are more if I can find omnibus editions of series/short stories. I will work on that..."I just added a few, including a Dutch book :)
Will look for more books later.
I like making lists.
I just found a list that would give great inspiration to any person doing the reject challenge for the prompt "micro history": You read a book about what?I also has a few ideas for the funny title accidentally (or not).

It's still a rather short list but hopefully it will be helpful for those wanting a YA book for the 600+ page topic in 2017. I wish our new list had existed before when I needed a long book for the popsugar challenge this year! I'll be picking from it next year for sure.
I'm seeing boxsets in the list Amy. Are there omnibus under the same name for these series or just boxsets? A boxset is a box with the separate books inside, so can't count as a full book.
Zaz wrote: "I'm seeing boxsets in the list Amy. Are there omnibus under the same name for these series or just boxsets? A boxset is a box with the separate books inside, so can't count as a full book."I only put box sets on if they were printed in the kindle edition all together as an omnibus. There were a lot of boxsets that were only printed as paperbacks so I didn't count those. If you prefer not to include them at all, I can remove them. Or I can add a note to the description explaining that if it would be helpful.
Zaz wrote: "Ok, no problem, maybe just add a line in the description :)"Added this bit: Box sets may be included ONLY IF they were ever printed in physical or e-book form as an omnibus (all included in one book).
Hope that clarifies. Sorry for the confusion :-)
Here is a link to 57 different publishers throughout the world. Hope this helps with finding a book that fits that week.http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by...
Zaz wrote: "I'm seeing boxsets in the list Amy. Are there omnibus under the same name for these series or just boxsets? A boxset is a box with the separate books inside, so can't count as a full book."A lot of times if you check out the series list, it will show if there are any omnibuses.
For example, under The Dark Is Rising, you'll notice the omnibus at the bottom: https://www.goodreads.com/series/4442...
I added the Illuminae series. The 1st book is 607 or 599p depending the editions and the 2nd is over 600. Both are epistolary fiction so can be interesting for the challenge if you enjoy the 1st. The 3rd is scheduled for 2017, so it'll probably fit the bill too.

I went through 700 books from the YA list and around 100 from the general 600+ page book list yesterday morning so I am sure that I missed a few omnibus editions. I will keep adding more as I go along. If you see any omnibus editions, please feel free to add them. :-)
Epic chart for the 5 top publishers with all the tiny houses they own:http://almossawi.com/big-five-publish...
(you can go with everything under Macmillan as it's not in the top 4).
An epic chart it is! I'm personally making it a little bit more difficult for me by not including Macmillan either, as I want to favor smaller or independent publishers.

Thanks Amy! I love time travel, yet I only read one of the best sci-fi books' list! Plus it's The Time Traveler's Wife, which wasn't a huge success for me.
