Excellent idea! i think a few guidelines could keep things flowing smoothly. Submissions should use the following format:

Promo or buy link:

I know it's a bit of a pain to include the blurb but the reality is some people aren't interested in a book at all until they read the blurb. Equally there are people who are intrigued by a title but realize the bookis not for them once they read the blurb. The more work we do the less clicks stand between your book and your next devoted fan.

Nik, how do you feel about price? limit it to free or giveaway promos or leave it open to all books? Are we simply sharing our work with one another or is the larger goal to reach readers on gr? I love either approach but just want to be clear.

Nik Krasno | 15694 comments The First Oligarch is gonna be free on Amazon this coming Sunday, July 3:

Rise of an Oligarch Rise of an Oligarch by Carlito Sofer
Genre: Hist. fiction with thriller elements (Godfather Russian style)
Blurb: When Ukrainian oligarch Mikhail Vorotavich is close to achieving his ambition of topping the Forbes rich list, an assassination attempt leaves him in a coma and his vast business empire rapidly descends into turmoil.
Lying in a hospital bed, Mikhail’s uncensored life story from a poor Jewish boy in communist USSR to disgustingly rich businessman in independent Ukraine, full of corruption, scheming, sex, drugs and violence, flashes in his mind’s eye. He has done it all: racketeering protection, drug trafficking, arms dealing, raiding privatised factories, dodgy infrastructure projects and money laundering.
Aspiring to get legit he moves to London, but behind his new pretended façade nothing really changes. And the higher Mikhail climbs the wider is the circle of enemies that want him dead.
Meanwhile, his partners, in a quest to discover who is behind the attack, stumble upon a conspiracy that, if realised, would change the world order. The mighty adversaries will stop at nothing.
Conspiracies, old scores, powerful enemies and the blurred lines between decency and corruption all surface.
Packed with remarkable characters and exotic scenes, humorous and philosophical at times, Rise of an Oligarch is a thriller set against the background of a young Ukrainian state striving to embrace capitalist democracy.

Rise of an Oligarch is the book that oligarchs do not want you to read.

Ah, and I really want these tbr shelves emptied -:)

The Siege of LX-925 (Freedom Reigns Book 1)
Science fiction

The Republic Ship Freedom has been ordered to remove a group of defiant miners from the dead world LX-925. As Remy marvels over the advanced technology at the crew's disposal, he quickly understands the horrific downside to these wonders. Risking everything, Remy schemes to bring a peaceful end to the stand-off before it escalates into genocide.

Dione's War Part 1: End of Order

End of Order documents the final hours of the battle carrier Legacy and her crew as a force of disenfranchised Earth expatriates calling themselves the Vandals wage a final assault to implement their Final Solution on the planet Legacy has sworn to protect.

*Note I released this as a preview to the full epic which goes live tomorrow. Part 1 was intended as a standalone piece to serve its purpose as a promotional tool. You can think of it as a prequel, a prologue, or whatever, but it is IMO too crucial to the larger story (though the larger story is not crucial to it) to leave it separate from the larger work.

Compared to What

Dale Ridgewick comes to Hades Garden with the cops on his tail and a bagful of cash in his truck. Trying to start a new life, he buys a house, finds a girlfriend, and gets a job. But when a workplace rivalry threatens the peace he seeks, Dale harnesses his dark past to wage war, unaware his nemesis harbors his own deadly past.

*note, this is not free per se, but I have set it to "reader sets price" on Smashwords allowing you to choose "free."

Timberlands: Blood and Prey (Timberlands book 1)

After witnessing his brother's death and fleeing from the killer in the woods during a camping trip, Gunner returns to the remote timberlands of Northern Maine with three friends to recover the body. He feels he's ready for the killer this time, but he's not ready for the surprises the forest hides.

*note Like Compared to What this one is offered at "reader sets price" allowing you to choose "free" as your price. Also the adult tag is set for retailers that might consider the violence and language worthy of the tag. There is a "sex scene," but I avoid the graphic details, choosing to more or less "say it happens" rather than turn the work into full-blown erotica.

Greg Hickey Title: The Friar's Lantern
Genre: fiction, with a few places where the reader will get to decide which direction to take the story (so semi-choose-your-own adventure, but not quite like what you read as a kid)
Blurb: You deserve a new adventure. You’re old enough now to play a game of chance to win $1,000,000. To decide if a man is guilty of murder for avenging his wife’s death. To gamble, guess, risk, explore, save one life and condemn another. And then do it all over again.

Alex (asato) we should make a group bookshelf. there are all sorts of info that can be included in the columns; in addition, the blurb would automatically display when you place the mouse over the book.

maybe a mod can customize the columns, but this is what it would look like:

i used M.L.'s as a sample, since it was the first one.

Nik Krasno | 15694 comments thx, Alex! Sound idea. Our currently almost empty shelves are inviting to occupy spots. No squeezing of other books -:)

J.J. Mainor | 2278 comments Smashwords is doing a sitewide promotion for July. I signed up most of my catalogue for 50% off, but I did link my horror novella Plantation to the FREE coupon.

A murderous ghost stalks the guests and staff at a bed and breakfast.

*word of note, this is the most graphic, brutal, violent story I've written. It doesn't fall in the "torture porn" category, but some might have problems with some of the "deaths." Probably best not to try it if you don't like horror.

message 12: by M.L. (new)

M.L. This is currently free:

Ten-year-old Caroline witnesses a crime, but she is afraid to tell anyone. She will soon witness another one. The risk of silence, is a burden no child should carry.

crime, suspense, short story

A L Jordan | 1 comments Lovely idea for a thread guys!

I'll be sure to take a look at your guys' books.

I have two short stories out free on Kindle Unlimited

The two short stories are the first in a collection entitled 'Royal Conspiracies'.

The first is 'What Happened In the Tower'.
It's a quiet night as the sun sets on the Tower of London in 1483, but the Princes soon find that they are not alone. There's a stranger in the Tower and he's coming for them.

And the second is 'Walsingham's Man'.
The spymaster of the Elizabethan court has a web of men to do his bidding. But one of these men is about to find out what being the spymaster's man really means when he's ordered to do something he doesn't want to do.

I would be grateful for any reviews or even thoughts here if you'd prefer.

Many thanks!

A. L. Jordan
