Stockton 99 Speedway. The racetrack of her dreams. She could hear it, feel it — the way they’d cheer for her, the way they’d shout her name. That was — if they’d get over the fact that she was a girl. What did that matter anyway? It seemed like it was a lot, judging from the fact that she’d been given sneers even though she’d only been wandering around near the drift track, and the occasional jeers that’d come after she’d won. Daisy could safely say that the best and worst part was the way people reacted when she completely floored them on the track — repeatedly. It wasn’t like she wanted the attention for being, well, different, it’d just been that they were just so shocked when she took off her helmet. For now, she was grateful that nobody had recognised her and went off to tell her dad about it (because one, it wasn’t that he was unsupportive, it was more of the fact that he would never let her race on the drift track because of how dangerous it was, and two, well, it would just have been a better surprise if she ended up racing for NASCAR without telling anyone). So she’d kept her racing a secret, even though she’d been bursting to tell her dad about the multiple wins she’d had since she started, both a bit of sheer beginner’s luck and skill and courage. So imagine her surprise when she spotted one of her dad’s workshop’s new ‘recruits’ near the speedway. “Oh, hey.”
