I could jump in on this one. It will look a lot like the TBR mini-challenge minus the first book, but with one additional book so.
The average number of pages I've been reading this year is 230-251. I usually try to avoid chunksters because they do take a long while to read and I am not a fast reader. I'm faster than I was in school but sti...SQUIRREL.

Mostly yes. I had thought I had read it years ago, I might have started reading it then but stopped, because there were several parts that were new to me, maybe just forgotten but I'm not so sure.
Overall I liked it, but at times was too concerned with the exposition to the point of over explaining how the society functioned that it didn't leave much room for much of an actual story. It was about 3 chapters in before a "story" started shaping up. The first two chapters were mostly concerned with how babies in the society were "hatched" and "bottled" and integrated into the society's caste system. They were just about how the society ran, and how people were "processed" instead of naturally born. I'm not sure how much of the details of the process was actually needed to tell the story. It is sort of the difference between baking a cake entirely from scratch vs. using a package with the batter pre-mixed. So my interest didn't get started until around chapter 3 or 4. That could have been why any earlier attempts to read it years ago were halted.
The copy of the book I have was published around the time or just after the airing of the NBC made for television "movie" (2 part mini-series?) circa 1980. I think I had watched that back then but not sure, I do recall a few years back (late 1990s about 1998) there was another made for TV (cable tv) version that had Leonard Nimoy as the controller, but I don't recall too much of it. I sort of recall it didn't follow the book too closely and the caste system, which is an important part of the book, wasn't well represented or identified.
Oh, I'll have to look up the movies now! Yes, I can agree that is was overly concerned with some trival details, although I did like it when I read in high school.

I'm still having a hard time reading books that are short enough, lol. I just finished one that almost counted, but was 288 pages.

Jenn, that's a good idea. I do have enough on my shelf for the challenge, but I need to remember to choose them!

Didn't even know there were UNCLE books. Sounds fun :0)
Finally read The Haunting of Hill House, which was one intense read! - review

Didn't even know there were UNCLE book..."
Yes the UNCLE books were published mid to late 60s around the last couple of seasons of the show. There are 23 books published in the US the last one being harder to find apparently and apparently most sellers want a fortune for it. IN the UK there were 16 books published they were the same stories as the US books but in a different order, different cover designs. As the numbers tell some of the stories were not published in the UK. There are also 2 "Girl From UNCLE" books based on that spin-off show from around the same time.

Thanks :O)
