It is time to nominate the theme for the next group read, July 15-September 14.
The theme can be anything, for example a particular tale or myth, a geographical area, a mythical being, a culture, an idea, basically anything as long as books can be found for it!
Some group read themes we have had in the past were:
Water ( Mermaids, Selkies and other water creatures)
First Nations/Native American
Asia ( Folklore and Mythology of Asia)
Unicorns
And more!

Our current Group read theme is Animal Transformations. It goes on until July 14.
Here are the links to the various discussions!

If you nominated a theme that did not win, you can always nominate it again!

I'm going to nominate witches. I don't know why, but I'm in the mood for some witches books!

For me, Faeries! I am in the mood to read some good stories about the Fae hidden among us!

Kristina Wojtaszek | 23 comments I was just reading a fairy tale to my boys called The Magic Fish, based on The Fisherman and His Wife or AT type 555 tales. Wikipedia lists a couple of novels based on these that sound interesting, so I would love to nominate The Magic Fish-type tales :)

Hm. Wikipedia lists three adult books and a poem for that tale.
Surlalune lists three short stories and some poems but no books.
I'm sure there's a couple more that aren't on either of those lists, but I'm concerned there might not be enough retellings for a group read.

Would you be interested in broadening your theme suggestion a bit? Was there one specific aspect of the story that appeals to you?
Three Wishes? Negative consequences of greed? Henpecked husbands? Something like that?

Your nomination isn't against the rules; I'm just trying to think ahead to the book nomination process where we try to have at least 3 or 4 books for both YA and adult.

Monica Davis Inspired by the book The Turnip Princess and other newly discovered fairy tales, but broad enough to encompass other works, I'll nominate the theme "Tales About Nature"

I believe these kind of tales called " AT type 555 tales" would be classified as "Dissatisfaction and Greed"
That would allow for more selections.

Does anyone want to nominate something else?
Up to now we have:
Witches
Dragons
Faeries
Dissatisfaction and Greed
Nature
