This is not strictly a policies and practices for librarians issue, it's more of a plea to staff.

I expect you don't personally handle most of the authors claiming profiles, but you probably know who does. We keep getting authors in the position where they've claimed the default profile, but didn't really mean to. That is, they provided a list of the books that were theirs, but they weren't separated out from the default, and now in the current case we have 60+ books to sort out, which means lots of fiddling around and will still mean getting a staff member to move the author.

Since authors are requested to provide that list of which books are in fact theirs when they attempt to claim a profile, could you please gently encourage any staff handling these requests to split the profiles first?

Unfortunately, authors submitting requests often don't specify (or don't do so clearly) which books are theirs. Despite the fact that the form asks them to.

Regardless, this group really is not the right way to submit "dear Goodreads" requests. That would be the Contact Us link on the Help page.
