Angel Parrish | 5 comments Any recommendations on this one? I tried John MacArthur's book on suffering...dreadful. Like having someone read to you in monotone a poorly written sermon.

message 2: by Brian (new)

Brian Hollifield | 2 comments Suffering and the Sovereignty of God. John Piper and Justin Taylor, general editors.

Becky | 38 comments I would definitely recommend Touching the Hem: A Biblical Response to Physical Suffering by Elizabeth Johnson. I know there is an Elisabeth Eliot title as well A Path Through Suffering: Discovering the Relationship Between God's Mercy and Our Pain but I haven't read it.

message 4: by Isaac (new)

Isaac Barton | 6 comments Tim Keller's book I think it's 'Walking with God Through Pain and Suffering' is very good. He splits the difference well between theological discussion and the practical.

message 6: by Patty (new)

Patty Page | 4 comments I've heard really good excerpts from Elizabeth Elliott's book "A Path through Suffering".

message 7: by Nelleke (new)

Nelleke Plouffe | 10 comments This might seem like a strange recommendation, but a fiction option for this category might be Island of the World by Michael O'Brien. It is very Roman Catholic, (I'm definitely not.) but I think it says something deeply Christian about suffering.

message 8: by Jane (new)

Jane | 69 comments Preparation for Suffering by John Flavel is wonderful on suffering for the faith; one of the most practical books I've ever read. And very timely!

message 9: by K B (new)

K B (kbcook) | 182 comments Standing Firm: A Christian Response to Hostility and Persecution, by Dr. Jesse Yow is excellent. I read it just this year and highly recommend it. Forward thinking for the days in which we live as American freedoms are unraveling.
