you might consider some self-assessment:

(it's hard to find that honest friend who is also good at spotting crap. it also takes some knowledge of the genre.)

and, if you haven't read this yet--an editor that I hired recommended it:

although they don't specifically apply to romance, they are still valid.

Sandy Frediani Fiona, everyone has to start somewhere and you will learn as you go along. While my own is fantasy, although there's romance in it...I've been working on it for 16 years and finally finished it last year. Finished the writing. There's always the proofreading, editing, polishing, rewriting....

But don't give up. You have a story in you - let it out, however imperfect at first. Write first, clean up later.
