Clever Girl question

Maybe she was too angry and restless to be practical, or clever. In the end she finally appreciated her life and family. When we're young, we think we know everything.

I don't think you see any evidence that she is, except for her passing her exams and doing well enough to get a scholarship. That was one of my issues with this book.
