I keep checking by here to see if we're gonna get one of those cool mini-challenges that I'm seeing over in the other all-teams threads...Maybe we'll have to come up with one of our own.....

Kate from the Snow Leopards checking in. Wondering why we have these threads? Is this for good nature ribbing of other teams in our classification? Is there some cooperation across classifications planned for this game? Just an additional way to meet more people as the challenges move forward? Just wondering...
I haven't really checked what other groups are doing, but certainly we can come up with some mini-game ideas while we are waiting for the official start. A few things to get us started:
Read a book with a cat, dog, goat or bear on the cover
Read a book set in one of our animals native habitats: Central/South/Southeast Asia, the Arctic Circle
Read a book with a white, red or brown cover
Read a book with mountains on the cover
Read a book with snow, ice, freezing or cold in the title
Just a reader with a few ideas...
That sounds pretty cool. Maybe we could come up with some mini challenges in each of our groups. And then we could alternate here - each of us host a mini challenge for OUR All-Chat? We've got - what - 16 or 18 weeks of this WOBBLE thing? We could divide up the months and go from there - each of us take a 4 week slot and set something up here?

Oh, did someone say 'mini challenges'? LOVE the idea. Yes, please!
So - the first thing to do is to divvy up the calendar. Wobble runs from June 17 to October 20, if I'm reading my calendar correctly (somebody check me on those 18 weeks).
Due to the hinky start and finish dates, there's not a 4 week block that encompases a single month, so what if we did a 3 week mini-challenge schedule with a week in between .... lagging the first start time until after WOBBLE is good and going.
Here's my thinking on the schedule : each one starts on a Sunday and runs 3 weeks, skipping a week until the next start.
June 26 - July 17
July 24 - August 14
August 28 - September 11
September 25 - October 16
Anybody got a better idea on the scheduling ?? Don't let me co-opt this thing.

I am good with mini challenges. I will start thinking of something. I am in team Markhor by the way
I wouldn't mind some mini-challenges in the vein of the Leprechaun daily puzzles, but as someone who'll just make the one book per week for the main challenge I can't commit to any additional/more selective reading. (but of course everyone else feel free to)
I would definitely be up for a mini challenge but not sure if I'd be able to come up with anything. I may go spy on some of the other groups :)We could maybe do some recommendations too similar to waiting on wobble. I'm sure there will be some strange goals for the different challenges and it might help. Unless we're being competitive :)

For example for Snow Leopard (my team) it would go like:
- Read a book set in Central or South Asia. (habitat)
- Read a book set on a mountain. (habitat)
- Read a book that has less than 6,390 reviews (number of SL that exist)
- Read a book where a character is solitary (behavior)
- Read a book where character is extremely secretive (behavior)
- Read a book where character uses camouflage (behavior)
etc...

An idea for Team Markhor's mini challenge:We could have them do a Spell-it-out challenge by doing each animals name and where they are found. For example:
Snow Leopard: Central and South Asia
Dholes: Asia
Markhors: Pakistan or Afghanistan
Polar Bears: Arctic Circle
OR:
Spell-it-Out challenge with the animals name and their scientific name. For Example:
Snow Leopards: Panthera uncia
Dholes: Cuon alpinus
Markhors: Capra falconeri
Polar Bears: Ursus Maritimus.
Standard Spell-it-out rules apply

I always like spell-it-outs for team challenges. It's doable for everybody no matter what types of books you read.

So for a mini-challenge, would books we use in the main Wobble be eligible for use? Or would it have to be different books? Personally, I'm going to devote all my books to Wobble while it's happening.

I like fun! And mini-challenges...especially when I can use books I'm already reading to count for more "points"...Go Team Markhor! Sorry, you other endangered species are on your own!
I really like the idea about getting to know our animals, but it will be harder to play than a spell-out. Like others have said before me, it's easier to do a spell-out alongside with WOBBLE and just use what we have, not looking specifically for new books
Spell it out sounds good but might not work if we're doing wheel athon. Maybe we should line up the mini challenge with the wobble one so they don't clash. Spell it out during battleship, a clue type one during wheel etc.

I am not mad keen on spell it out option that would be a hell of a lot of books to do common and latin names25 books for snow leopards for example
I think for spell it out we just give a choice of different words and teams can choose which and how many words they can spell. Say 5 points for a letter and a bonus 10 points for every word completed.Do we want to stick with the 26th June start till 27th July for the first challenge? Just conscious we'll be starting in the last week of battleship (I think) so mini will run over Olympic.
It might be easier to just fall in line with Wobble timetable or maybe start a day or two after. Only problem would be we'd end up with 6 mini challenges. Although possibly towards the end it'll be a mad dash for points on Wobble and there won't be time for a mini.

Books for Event 1: Heat 2 may be STARTED with Event 1: Heat 1 but no other books for any other Events may be STARTED until after E1:H1 is COMPLETE!!!

Thanks Jenny. We're trying hard to represent the Endangered well. But the De-Ohs are sure making our job hard! They're usually under water where we can't hunt them easily! But we'll keep trying! Your chariot - how could we NOT love it?? It was awesome!
Hope everyone is enjoying Wheel. We don't seem to have a lot of luck with it - our words are usually pretty short, so we've been feeling a need to respin in hopes of getting something we can play for a while. I think we finally lucked out with our most recent one...
