Nickole Castillo | 39 comments I did not like this book very much. I found myself putting it down and coming back to it (only because I had to). I'm not sure if I would put this in my classroom library or not. It is a good book for students to get an idea of what Sarah's life was like back then, but it might be too slow of a pace for my students. To me, I found it very sad at the beginning when Caleb was asking about his mother who died giving birth to Caleb. I feel bad for Sarah having to take over the motherly duties for her family, but that's how it was then. I would use this book to have my students write about their life during Sarah's time period. I would try to find some fun activities to go along with it.

I agree Nickole, this is a more slow book. However, I do feel it represents the time period very well. It does have a sad tone. There are lots of fun activities to do with this book.
