War and Peace War and Peace question

Which Translation?!??

Hey fellow book addicts!
I have a hankering to read this books, but since, alas I don't speak Russian, I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions on what translated version to get? There are so many out there and so many opinions on each version, I need a little help! Thanks!!

People have different purposes in reading, and different esthetic taste.

I prefer for old books to sound old, and the 2005 Briggs translation is modernized. The 2007 Pevear & Volokhonsky translation is supposed to be very close to the original Russian, but I think I'd rather read something that's smoother in English. The 2010 Mandelker/Maude translation from Oxford seems like a good balance between old-fashioned, smooth English and good Russian scholarship.

Loads of opinions, most backed by reasons.
I like the Briggs...but the best thing to do is get into a bookshop and read a wee bit of a few and see which one rings your bells.
If you go by someone else's opinion you have a lot of pages to read if you end up not liking the flavour.
