Pam Baddeley | 207 comments There are quite a few problems with the editions of this book.

I've had to create this request under the wrong version of the book as the ex-library edition I own does not exist at all on GR. Also, I think the cover shown for the version with ISBN number 999750626X is incorrect as it clearly shows a Piccolo logo in the top left-hand corner, and Piccolo were a paperback imprint (the children's arm of Pan Paperbacks), whereas the book is meant to be a hardcover published by HarperCollins in 1968. However, this must also be wrong because HarperCollins are a conglomerate that was not formed until 1989 - they did not exist in 1968. The original publisher may be Hamish Hamilton, as the later version I have certainly is.

The one I have (ex library edition) is published by Hamish Hamilton in 1975. It has a slightly odd ISBN number which is called a 'SBN' number and isn't found on GR:

SBN - 241 89152 3 (I tried putting a zero in front of this but it didn't find anything - however, the Wikipedia article does show 241 as being Hamish Hamilton)
Publisher: Hamish Hamilton
Year: 1975
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 192
Cover illustrator: Charles Keeping (quite a well known book illustrator of the time)

I have uploaded the front cover to and a wrap round version of the cover, so you can see it is a hardcover at

Hope you can help to sort out these issues

Pam Baddeley | 207 comments Hi, as this had sunk to page 3, thought it best to bump it for visibility.

Sandra | 22706 comments I've created your edition of the book, and given it the ISBN that WorldCat has for it. You'll notice that adding the zero made it into the ISBN 10 number.

The info for the other book appears to come from Amazon, though not the cover image. WorldCat doesn't recognise the ISBNs.

Sandra | 22706 comments As a couple of librarians have added this information, and I don't have any other information I won't be changing that edition.

Pam Baddeley | 207 comments OK thank you Sandra.

I realise my photo has come out a bit dark. Should I take a better one for you to upload - I would need to do so soon as I am planning to pass the book to a charity shop now I've read it.
