maria helena (mariahel) | 1759 comments Hi team!

My name is maria helena and I'll be your captain for this epic challenge.

I just finished my PhD and is about to start a new job as a postdoctoral researcher studying explosive volcanic eruptions (which is just a fancy way of saying that I'm obsessed with volcanoes and spend a lot of time looking at rocks). When I'm not out in the field digging for rocks, in the lab analyzing rocks, or in the office writing about rocks, you can usually find me reading a book, at the library borrowing more books, or at the bookstore wishing I could afford to buy more books. Or I'm out walking, trying to clear my head while listening to an audiobook.

I read mostly crime novels, especially Nordic/Scandinavian and British crime. When the mood strikes, I also read romance, romantic suspense, thrillers and the occasional fantasy or historical fiction. Lately, I've also been reading a lot of non-fiction.

I'm sure the mods have a lot of exciting surprises in store for us and that this is gonna be a great challenge! I can't wait to get started and tackle all these tasks together.

message 13: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 79 comments Hi Team,

I'm Jennifer, and I am really excited to start this team challenge. Just a little about me, I'm a single mom of a very active teenager so I spend a lot of time driving and waiting. I use to believe the only way to read a book was to actually have the book in your hand. I had a hard time switching to ebooks, but now I am very greatful to have my IPad and google books. It makes things a lot easier when I'm waiting for my son.

I'm also a little on the competitive side, and I like to plan ahead on what to read for challenges. Although I'm not sure if that is possible here. That's ok I have lots of books on my TBR list also.

I just finished my first team challenge (UNO) with another group and i can't wait to start another one. I think I've been bitten by the team challenge bug.

maria helena (mariahel) | 1759 comments Hi Jennifer!

I never thought I was especially competitive but apparently reading challenges bring out my competitive side...

It is hard to plan your reading ahead of times for a challenge like this. I have a long list of books I would like to read during the challenge and hopefully they will work for the tasks we are given :-)

I guess I should say couple of words as I'm going to supervise your road to extinction victory.

Stay calm. There is no need to panic. End is near and we are well prepared...

Just have fun and read good books.

MelanieJoy (ladybird11) | 1063 comments Hi Team!
Checking in!

My name is Melanie, I'm 26 years old, I live in California and I work as a receptionist.
I love to read; I go in spurts of how much I read - sometimes it's a book per week and other times it will be 5 books per week.
My job is pretty simple and straightforward and it gives me some downtime so I'll most likely check in during the work day. I usually read fiction and fantasy and romance, but I'm open to reading lots of different types of books for this challenge!
I also go in spurts of how chatty I am, but I'll definitely check in at least once a week.
This is my first team challenge! I'm super stoked!
I'm really looking forward to competing with all of you! Even the team name Dire Wolves makes me feel ferocious and ready to WIN! :)

Welcome Melanie!

I read in spurts too. Sometimes I read a book a day, sometimes one a week depending on how crazy work is.

When I was a teenager, I worked as a receptionist during my summer breaks. The office was pretty much empty and they just needed someone to sort mail and answer the phone, so I basically could sit and read all day. Best summer job ever for a book nerd like me :-)

message 18: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1607 comments Hiya!
I'm a graduate of computer forensics, and I now work shifts for an IT company in the UK. I'll try to be as active as possible, but there won't be much issue unless its during my day time in the UK and I am on nights as I'll be sleeping but with 3 of us I doubt there will be an issue.

I'm a planner as well but I haven't planned any books for this challenge, just going to try and go with the flow... Oh and my genres for reading are: romance, fantasty, Sci-fi, paranormal, YA. Although I pretty much hate dystopia genre in fantasy books.
This is my 2nd team challenge with this group, my first was tower teams which I loved and I am also extremely competitive but at the end of the day as long as we all have fun I'm happy :-).

JennyWren (guinivere87) | 361 comments Hi guys!

I'm so happy I got a spot I just missed the signup by a few hours. Plus we've got a really cool team name :)

My name is Jenny but I go by JennyWren on GR since there seem to be a lot of us (Hi Jennifer :D). I'm 28, work as a healthcare assistant, live in the UK and in my spare time all I do is read and watch tv shows.

I've been doing quite a few challenges lately and it's been lots of fun! I read quite a lot most of the time and then struggle to commit to anything for a few days. That's just me. I usually go back to a favourite romance book and then I'm over it lol :)

Jacki | 236 comments Hey all!

I'm Jacki *waves*

Our team is from all over! I love it! I'm located in northern Minnesota on Lake Superior. I'm an Audiologist (Huh???What??? Can you hear me now???) working at a small VA clinic. My nights are consumed with reading/Goodreads, Netflix binges, and video games...its a rough life ;)

I'm beyond addicted to reading challenges and probably should slow it down but can't seem to stop signing up for stuff. I will read pretty much anything but greatly enjoy fantasy, sci/fi, thrillers and non-fiction books.

Can't wait for this to start :)

message 26: by Letitia (new)

Letitia (letitiak3) | 151 comments Hi team!

I am so excited for this challenge. I was on an Uno team challenge as well which made me love team challenges.

I am Letitia (la-tee-sha) and am 25 years old. I live in Pennsylvania. I am teacher by day (or at least during the school year) and a full time mother to a very active but sweet four year old. I also am going back to grad. school for my special education degree so I am almost always on the run or busy.

With that said, I am also always reading. My way of decompressing and relaxing from the stress of daily life is to read. I will read almost anything although romance is by far my favorite genre.

I cant wait to get to know everyone better and begin this fun challenge.
:)

message 28: by Alanna (new)

Alanna | 7 comments Hi everyone! I'm so excited for this challenge, especially as I only signed up about five hours before the form closed and didn't think I'd get in.

I'm also 26, a physical anthropologist by education and a customer service person by trade. I'm starting a new job Monday that will provide me much more time for reading (and grad school applications!), so hopefully I can go from 2 books a week back up to 4ish.

I am mad about movies and tv, specially old movies but I love all of them and I work on national tv. I studied archeologhy and etnologhy but I have degree in journalisam.

During the year I work a lot and weather is cold but in summer time is hot and we all go to seaside, my mother is from Island so we have house there and clean coast and sea. In a month I have my month long vacation so I'll read and hopefully swim and read both.

Now, the weather is hot and we are all outside walking, going out but I can read 2 books a week and on my vacation in August even more.
I mostly read at night and walking to and from work, yes -it's great walk and read, walking and reading. I lose myself in another world.

This will be fun, I was in last 3 challenges and Teams and I can't wait to start.

maria helena (mariahel) | 1759 comments Alanna - I love your profile pic! That's so awesome.

Looks like we all cover quite a range in reading preferences. I love seeing what books everyone reads (except my tbr list tends to increase a lot during reading challenges). I'm trying desperately to get it down to a manageable number of books but it seems impossible.

maria helena (mariahel) | 1759 comments I'm curious - what other team challenges have you all participated in, and if WOBBLE is your first team challenge, what made you decide to join?

I also do a lot of reading while walking. Audiobooks are the best! I actually only started listening to audiobooks last year. The first audiobook I ever listened to was awful (with a horrible narrator) and it took me several years to give it another try.

Letitia (letitiak3) | 151 comments My first challenge was the Uno challenge. That was actually the first time I really explored goodreads and discovered groups and challenges. I thought it sounded neat so I asked to be put on the waiting list and was able to start in April. I was Team Scooby Doo! We may not have had the best score but I had a blast and loved my team mates. Now I think I might be hooked with challenges.. ha.

My boyfriend was actually asking me questions about this challenge. He doesn't even have a goodreads so he only knows about it off what I told him. It made me realize how much I talk about it.
:)

Ozana Ozzy (barbozzy) | 1018 comments I was 2014 in Time wheel challenge and 2 tower challenges in 2012 and 2013 and Wheel-a-thon 2015, last year. These were long challenges but I think they were mostly over the winter or winter in Europe.

Uno was the only other Team Challenge I've done (Go Happy Feet). I had a great time and got to know a few new people. I have done quite a few individual challenges, but I'm really like the idea of these group ones.

One thing I've noticed is that I am seeing a lot of the same people in multiple groups. I think that is really cool. =)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1759 comments The Uno challenge was great (I was on team SpongeBob). Some of my favourite team challenges have been tower teams and battleship.

One of the best thing about the team challenges is definitely the people you meet :-)

I don't think it will be very complicated. And Megan, Jacki and I will help you if you have any questions.

My sister just laughs at me when I tell her about reading challenges. She never before considered reading to be such a competitive hobby...

Karen | 65 comments Hi All

I'm Karen from the UK. A very young at heart 43 with no intention of growing up if I can possibly help it. I divide my time between working in a bookshop, writing book reviews and trying to keep up with my two teenage children and husband. When I do get spare time (and I'm not glued to a book) I love music, cinema and time spent in the great outdoors.
Really looking forward to this challenge. I've only been involved in one previous team challenge - last years' Tower Teams - but I do lots of individual ones. They definitely seem to bring out my competitive side :)
