You have until the 13th of June to post a poem, and June 14-17, we’ll vote for which one we thought was best.

Please post directly into the topic and not a link. Please don’t use a poem previously used in this group. Only one submission per person is allowed.

Your poem can be any length.

This week’s topic is: Dark Truth

*The topic was inspired by Courtney's poem for Week 313.

The rules are pretty loose. You could write a poem about anything that has to do with the subject/photo but it must relate to the topic somehow.

Have fun!

Storms came,
Rain fell.
No more words to tell.

Dark tide,
Flowing inside.

Light on the edge,
Teetering ledge,

Black hole subdues
No more to do.

Nothing to see
Nothing to be.

Loophole provides
Connection to outside

Thin string,
Nothing to bring.

Only to see,
But not to be.

String gets thicker,
Stronger.
Then bicker.

Change is made
Plans are laid.

Most of them do go astray.

Cometh through,
Find the way.

Finding the thing
That then helps to stay.

Coincidence.

Now to see
And be
And all for reality.

Ryan | 5334 comments Wreckage

A shrill yap, cut short; a thud
reverberates from car wheel
to the padlocked room at his core
where once he cowered from the beating
of his childhood heart, as shadows raged outside.

Now a father's blows are replaced by blood,
pounding a drum in his ears; a mother's wails
replaced by a dog's dying yowls.

Howls turn to pants,
turn to silence
and he finds himself driving -
one more mangled wreck
fading behind.

Feedback Welcome!

The windows to his soul
Were those walnut eyes
I realized time was nearing
He was ready for goodbyes.

His voice was wavy and weak:
“We used to pick cotton there
My friends and my brothers
As the whites would only stare.

Now big buildings and the like
That field is all grown over
They should’ve left well alone
And let it turn to clover.

They say that it’s called progress
The metal and the glass
But I heartily disagree
I’d rather see green grass.

Hammers and nails ain’t progress
And neither is concrete
It’s getting along with others
And cooling down the heat.

Why can’t we just forget?
Red, yellow, black and white
Live together in harmony
Please, let us stop this fight.”

As our world spins on and on
The truth of race is dark
Hatred because of skin
Has sadly left its mark.

Terri (andraineasilverlite) Never Ending Cycle

The night is breathless.
Even the crickets dare not chirp.
There isn't even a slight breeze.

The stars do not even twinkle.
Nor does the moon shine brightly.
It is as if the world waits with baited breath.

For that moment when the heaven's cry.
The moment when hell will rise.
The moment when everything dies.

The morning breaks.
All to soon technology sings.
Humans waste what the Earth gives.

This is the dark truth.
We need the Earth to live.
Yet, we kill what gives us life.

Edward Davies | 1727 comments Title : The Dark Truth
Poet : Edward Davies

More often than not
The truth is a fact
That can make us feel worse
Simply by its impact

It can sting like a bee
It can stab like a knife
It can cut to the quick
It can cause one much strife

It’s an obvious fact
That we don’t want to know
When whatever we’ve done
Has been causing much woe

So we hide from the truth
No matter the shade
We have no regrets
In the bed that we’ve made

Marie (naturechild02) | 660 comments Truth Revealed

A dream
a happy place
I stand with you
we laugh and dance

Gave everything
all of myself
You accepted my love
with smiles

One day I see
the dark truth revealed
Your love was fake
my heart betrayed

Lesson learned
I give my love
To no one now
Heart safe and sound

One day
I shall heal
Ready to try again
ready to trust another

Yet I will
still be wary
Searching for signs
of fake love, of disinterest

No more lies
no more betrayal
I will be more careful
next time around

Title: Questions
By: CP Cabaniss

what to write
what to say
when i feel like i'm empty, no words to share

what to do
what to dream
when i feel like i'm falling, spiraling down

who to be
what to see
when i look in the mirror and just cringe away

i'm living on fumes
well past emtpy
afraid it's too late, to refill my tank

Just another day and I scroll down

And I scroll down
And a man shot fifty people inside a gay bar.

And I scroll down
And a small little girl got kidnapped from a mall.

And I scroll down
And a beaten hindu women was forced to eat beef.

And I scroll down
And a man still shouts that he wants to build a wall.

And I scroll down
And I scroll down

And I scroll down
And I scroll down

Robert Rooney | 60 comments Darkness We Prefer

The tide of light inches in
Shadows to hide are torn away
Even our hand cannot stem it
Oh it has been so long
Burns terribly now to peek
Streams of gold still streaked in blood
Wrapped in the orange rays
An ancient dark truth we dare not see
The pitch black has made it worse
But it is still the truth that sets us free

       by Guy Duperreault (FB&C welcomed)

It is a journey of small victories in intention and action in each moment. — by anonymous

On the other side of here is there
and there is in the darkness of the unseen.
And the unforeseen becomes a forsaken dream of one days’s dawn
within the darkness that rests unseen inside the me I dream to be
when the darkness no longer rests within the brightness of sunny days.

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4216 comments Wow I feel just silly. I forgot that the results were all put onto the WSS mag. Wish I had remembered earlier... another faux pas! Oh well... though I'm now embarrassed a little.

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4216 comments In case anyone's curious or hasn't checked out the results, here are the polls for Week 314's poem entries!!

Espresso Bean by Al won first place! Awesome!

There was a two way vote for second place as both Kerry's untitled piece and Just Another Day and I Scroll Down received enough votes to garnish a "silver." Great!

And finally there was a four-way tie for the third. This consists of Skin by Melissa A., Never Ending Cycle by Andrainea, Wreckage by Ryan, and just as well Truth Revealed by Marie who each got one vote above the rest.

Great job to everyone who voted, participated, and observed over all of this week. And thank you all!

(Special Note: If people want the rest of the contests shown like this, please let me know. I'd be happy to do the rest!).
