Al Macy (pianoal) | 6 comments I'm new to GoodReads. This looks like a good group, but I'm looking for a group for authors in general (not just SmashWords).

Recommendations?

Thanks,

Al

Or The Indie Book club. Depending on your genre then there are lots per genre. Some don't let authors advertise some do.

Also it is easier if you put the GR link to your book not the Amazon one... especially in the Smashwords group. Not everyone is published/reads on Amazon. If you haven't added your book here then you can - check your author profile and if it is linked to your name then it is added. If not then you can add the details yourself. There is a good librarian group where you can ask for help or try a new thread here, as some maybe librarians. If you don't have an author profile then you can apply for one.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 998 comments Here are a couple of other links - Author Feedback group https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
Librarians group
Books, blogs, authors and more https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Just a word of advice - make sure you read individual group guidelines on self promotion. A lot of groups don't allow it - you are there as a reader - some do but in specific places. Some members get very upset by authors spamming in the wrong place.

What is youre genre?

Al Macy (pianoal) | 6 comments Thanks, guys, I'll check those out.

>What is your genre?

Well, um, ah ... my problem is that I'm in several different genres. That way, there will be no chance of carryover success from one book to another. :)

My first book helps people who are learning to sight-read music on piano. It details my quest to improve my reading.

The second book is a humorous account of a car/bicycle/camping trip.

The third (mentioned above) helps authors with formatting paperback books.

And the one I'm working on now is a science fiction thriller.

Weird, huh?

Al

Al Macy (pianoal) | 6 comments Quick question:

What's with the punctuation problems? Apparently this forum software is removing spaces after all periods and commas.

No space here.No Space.
One space here. One Space.
Two spaces here. Two spaces.
Three spaces here. Three spaces.

Thanks,

Al

Duane L. Martin (unseenthings) | 52 comments A lot of CMS software removes the second space. When I was in school, they taught us that the standard was two spaces, but the internet seems to have changed that standard. Even in my books I've noticed that when I open them in the reader program I use on the tablet, the reader removes the second space, though in the actual code of the books those spaces are there. Personally, I don't like it, but there's nothing we can do about it.

Al Macy (pianoal) | 6 comments I was also taught to put two spaces after a period, and am gradually adapting to the newer system.

But it looked like this forum was removing spaces after commas and periods, but I see now that it's just a case of having a very narrow space in this font.

This is what it looks like on my screen:

Duane L. Martin (unseenthings) | 52 comments Yeah, I can't stand reading stuff when it's all squeezed together like that. :P
