This is a short story that can be read in one sitting. Published in 1892 the writing did not feel dated at all but surprisingly current. The story is about one woman's battle with mental illness. The room in which she is secluded to for rest and recovery has some yellow wall-paper that ends up being one of the characters of the story. “The color is repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow-turning sunlight.” As her mental illness progresses she goes from hating the paper to seeing things in the paper. “There is a recurrent spot where the pattern lolls like a broken neck and two bulbous eyes stare at you upside down.” For those that like short stories I think this is a good one and one I would recommend.
