“Two things everybody's got tuh do fuh theyselves. They got tuh go tuh God, and they got tuh find out about livin' fuh theyselves.”

Janie is the granddaughter of a slave. Her grandmother worried about her own health and wanting to see her granddaughter taken care of, Janie is married at the age of 16 to a much older man but one with a home. This is the story of Janie's life journey and it is beautiful. The language that Zora chose to use transported me back in time and to the South. I liked Janie and cared what happened to her. I also enjoyed the historical aspect of the story. I learned a lot about the towns in Florida during that time period.

I read a bit about Zora Neale Hurston own life journey and I enjoyed learning about the author. I liked this book well enough that I want to read more of her books.
