Kate (kjh6) | 13 comments 1970s or 80s childrens book. Story is about a witches cat who searches for her brother. On her travels she stays at a flour mill with the millers daughter, sat on her lap in front of the fire and caught mice in the store. Possible character names are Tabitha and Montago? One cat was black with bright blue eyes.

Description from Novelist: A black cat that needs to rescue its brother from a witch's spell enlists the help of lonely ten-year-old Mary Smith.

Here is a review from Kirkus:
Scaled-down sorcery comes to Shropshire in the form of a purple flower called Fly-by-Night, a black cat named Tib and a diminutive broomstick which whisks little Mary Smith away to Endor College where the curriculum includes spells, invisibility and the grisly subject of "transformations." Mary has no intention of becoming an apprentice witch, but when Madam Mumblechook catnaps Tib for one of her experiments, she is forced to return to the college and out-spell the experts.

Kate, is this a picture book (about 32-48 pages) or a chapter book with mostly words?

Does the cat alone go searching for the cat's (not witch's) brother?

Kate (kjh6) | 13 comments I think it was a chapter book with a black cover and a picture inside a circle. It may have been an older book.
